Need help with transmission identification

I have a 96 GMC K1500, stepside with a 5 spd manual trans and the 305 Vortec V8. I want to order a trans rebuild kit but am having trouble identifying which trans I have. Does anyone know if they put both the Gehrag 5 speed and the NV series in half tons, or would it be only the MG5?

 

I have tried many different sources and got no answers, any help is appreciated.

Have you tried a VIN decoder or your local dealership's parts department? They can run the VIN and get you the build code for the transmission. Or your glovebox tag (SPID label) with all of the RPO build codes on it.

I tried one dealership, but I think they just looked at the VIN. I will look in the glovebox then. Thanks!
