Extended Warranty

Recommended Posts

Cford716 will depend on how long you want coverage and the level of coverage. I purchased an additional 5 years past bumper to bumper for 2600.00 thru my GM dealer on my 2015. I selected the Major Guard level of coverage.

might as well buy 2600 bucks worth of lotto tickets LOL. Odds are against you in this game, the people that think they are smarter than the odds makers are fooling themselves. Not against lotto tickets heck I bought one this afternoon on the way home and tripled my money Yippee paid 1 buck and won three really kicked arse LMFAO

Don't go buying a vacation house with that money, save it for the future.

3 yr / 36,000 mile Bumper to Bumper comes on a new one

as long as you don't go past that you can buy it ANYTIME within that time - so no rush - why pre-pay ?

OK -anyway here are some older posts: they vary on coverage wanted & mileage & time

http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/156003-additionalextended-warranties/

kind of shady that GM does not offer the fees on some chart ... whereas they let the dealer try to take advantage of the buyer as best they can

I've see people say they increased their Bumper to Bumper to 5 yr / 60,000 miles for about $1800, and found out later that some others had got it for $800 (?) dealer cost as part of a package deal (?) with mods ... add ons (wheels/running boards ...)

Lots of inconsistencies in coverage's & prices

One thing for sure - Get The Real GM one - not after market - is my opinion

I have had Ex warranty more than pay for itself a few times. Also, they will haggle on the price.

Example. Wife's Buick Enclave. Dealer originally wanted $1950 to take the warranty to 8yrs/120,000mi. I negotiated him down to $856.

First, the water pump and a seat motor took a dump about 5yrs. That was a $1200 bill right there. Few months later, the other seat motor went out, along with a power mirror. Another $800.

Then, at 6yrs,68,000mi,the transmission died. $5065.

Since then, we have had anotber water pump replaced, along with a few other things.

While that case isnt typical, I made out like a bandit on that one.

Sure, back 10yrs ago, extended warranty wasnt worth it, when a 4.8 truck would go 300k without any major issues. On top of parts being really cheap, and easy to replace, even for a novice.

Now? Hell, nothing, I repeat NOTHING under the hood can be replaced for less than a grand. Gas, or diesel. God forbid you have a diesel out of warranty, and something like the inj pump takes a dump, or you need to have a head pulled. I flat out wouldnt own a newish diesel if it DIDN'T. have warranty.

But again, negotiate the price, and consider the vehicle. New gas half ton warranty for $2800? Probably a little too high. New denali diesel for $2500? Im all over that.

Thanks for the replies. They started at $3500. Finally settled for $2400 to go out 6 years and 100,000 miles for the bumper to bumper GM plan. I plan on keeping this one. Yes, you can wait to get it but I found when I tried to do this on a previous truck the price went up the longer you wait, not down.

I just bought a gm certified 2500 with 9400 miles. It came with a good warranty as a certified vehicle but I added the full bumper to bumper extended plan same as yours for $2400. Hopefully, we'll both regret spending that extra cash down the road.

It's just peace of mind for me. Hopefully never need it. But its nice that if anything does go wrong you can just say fix it without worrying about the price.

FWIW, You can purchase the extended warranty from an out of state dealer. You may want to look at Fla. By state of Fla. laws ( according to the dealer I purchased my truck from ), the dealer has to sell the Ex. Warr. at a set price stipulated by the state. He/she can't raise the cost nonchalantly.

I plan on purchasing my Ext. Warr., when I am close to the 36K or 3 yr mark.
