I love the slalom course one. Had the same experience when I took mine up into the mountains this past winter. We were coming back down after taking the grandkids up to play with their saucers. There was another 4x4 that was slipping and sliding on a turn on the snow packed road. I thought that he was going to end up off the roadway and I would have to rescue him. He managed to correct but barely made it. Guess that he had enough and decided that he wasn't going to go any further.

Those videos are a joke. I still think GM makes the best pickup overall but these videos are almost as bad as the idiot-level marketing Ram did back in 2009. No one uses a bed like they show, GM stupidly went with AT&T for their OnStar and LTE provider which doesn't hold a candle to Verizon, the G80 doesn't hold a candle to Ford's real locker and I'm sure I could pick apart the rest of these crappy videos but they're all the same.

So why are you on this website. You obviously hate Chevys.

I suggest you re-read my post. GM trucks have shortcomings but they're still the best one overall I think. I mostly hate their marketing, it's a bit pathetic.

But according to you, you don't even drive one. A Jeep? Really?

For now. I wanted to give one a shot before Chrysler had to soften them because of safety regs and fuel economy standards, which they'll be doing for 2018. I had two Silverados before it and will probably have another when I trade this in sometime next year. Up till July, I traveled extensively for work and drove probably a dozen different 2014+ GM pickups and SUVs. I like them overall still. The G80 is a joke and always has been, anyone who has tried feathering the throttle or brakes to get one to lock knows what I'm talking about. And they made a mistake switching from Verizon to AT&T for their telecom stuff but since I'd probably never use the hotspot I don't care too much.

gm has the steel bed, but to stay in the same categories, it becomes a percentage of strength for the frame.

I have the wimpiest tales ever per HP (96-99 vortec)..and had to make the bed quite a monster...to keep the rails.

the next generation after the 98 broke more frames than the wimpy tail years.

Ford does have something on GM, and you are right..marketing sucks.

Ford could simply mention, "take the bed off, feel free to drive it.."

it would outlast the chevy, if it did the same.

I like all the trucks. There is an extra they all kept as strong...a trait to keep.

I actually love my 96 for being a baja animal right out of the box. No stiff overcorrecting. Stays on leaning roads.

I just gave it its first camber adjust in 20 years and 355k miles.

the ABS is smart enough to make a differantial think...

but, no heavy hauling for me. the new duramax canyon does more (believe it or not).

Well of course it does, it is 20 years newer.. A lot happens in the time of 20 years. Even the new 4.3L Ecotech V-6 is more powerful than the 5.3L when released in 1999. At least GM doesn't have to stick turbos on their trucks (minus the Diesel) to make them fast and powerful like Ford does.

Most guys shrug off the aluminum bed holes. I actually DO use my truck like this. I hope GM doesn't use aluminum for the bed.

For Ford to go with such thin sheet metal is embarassing. They push the "Built Ford Tough" tagline but their bed doesn't meet that standard. In the lead-up to the release of the 2015 F150 they were putting out tons of marketing videos where they showed F150's being loaded just as rough as the GM bed test. Military grade is a meaningless tagline. Everything in the military has a spec or grade. Great marketing team at Ford though.
