2015 Yukon - worst vehicle I've ever owned

First off, thank you to all of you who post issues, suggestions, easy fixes, etc on these forums....it has helped me troubleshoot and solve numerous issues with my Yukon and has also helped me to point my local dealership in the right direction to fix things (not that I should have to do that...). This forum has been a tremendous help.

 

A couple years ago, I purchased the most expensive and what I assumed would be the nicest vehicle I've ever owned. A brand new 2015 Yukon. I was the first person to buy one in my town and the dealership took a pic, put it in the paper, etc. Exciting times. Well, the honeymoon is over.

 

I've dealt with a different issue about every other month....about half of them required taking into the dealership to have fixed. Here is my growing list of issues up to this point:

 

  • Infotainment Screen is nothing but static sometimes...I requested the dealership update the software on EACH visit, but they "don't see a reason to"
  • Infotainment will NOT turn on sometimes....very random and can't duplicate
  • LOUD wind/bug deflector when sunroof opened...I know, just a design issue, but I keep it closed when driving because of the loud noise (so what's the point of a sunroof?)
  • BIG PROBLEM: Rear passenger door would NOT unlock on random occassions…couldn’t get child out easily (had to crawl through other side to get to her seat). Ended up being a failed actuator in the door that the dealer replaced...they initially could not "replicate" the issue and refused to replace it. I told them I wouldn't have a vehicle that jeopardized my child's safety and they could either fix it or keep it. They fixed it.
  • Liftgate hydralic popped off completely….liftgate fell and hit me in head
  • Liftgate wing on the roof was poorly designed and wouldn’t allow it to open when hot outside…sounded like it was going to brake. This was part of their recall and it was fixed.
  • Engine has mysteriously stalled and died a few times at red lights.
  • Seat recall kept losing its programmed position...dealer couldn't figure out why
  • Vehicle locks with keys in car…had to use onstar app on phone to unlock it
  • Vehicle will sometimes not turn off completely….have to press brake, turn on, and then turn off again
  • Auto wipers do not always work correctly (wipes too slow in hard rain, wipes too fast in light rain...dealer can't replicate it, so it's not "fixable")
  • Tires wore out and were replaced at 38,000 miles ($64,000 vehicle with cheap tires)
  • AC stopped blowing cold air...found a hole in condenser line at 37,000...probably because the grill's slits are wide enough to fit a mini cooper through. Would have cost me $1,500 had I not bought the MasterTech 100,000 mile warranty.
  • Battery needed replaced at 39,000 miles ($64,000 vehicle with cheap battery...alrighty)
  • Driver System Alert….seats stopped vibrating at 40,000 miles...just beeps now and drives my wife crazy. Haven't dealt with the dealer on that yet. Deciding to either fix it or get rid of this rolling headache on wheels.

Needless to say, I'm frustrated and exhausted with this thing. The issues, the DAYS without a vehicle (dealer doesn't have a loaner)....the hours sitting around waiting for them to figure out the cause of issues...etc. I've spoken with my dealer who passed the buck on GM. I spoke with a GM rep who passed the buck to the dealer. Nobody at GM seems to care about about providing a quality product and making customers happy.

 

I don't know if any of you other 2015/2016 Yukon owners are having this sort of experience with your vehicle...I certainly hope not. As for what I'll do from here...I have no idea...GM isn't helping at all, which is making it EXTREMELY easy to switch brands and never buy another GM vehicle.

 

Again, thank you to those of you who provide the support and tips that people like me unfortunately need on a constant basis. You've been a much bigger help than GM.

Did you not research before you purchased? Most are very common issues, to be expected in a first year run. Give your dealer a few months to get them patched up. Tires wearing out? That is what tires do. They start wearing out from day one.

I purchased it when they were first released a couple years ago...there wasn't any feedback anywhere.

 

Personally I think manufacturers should offer a longer warranty on first year models/redesigns of their vehicles...I knew there would be some kinks since it was a complete redesign, but I've never had a vehicle with constant issues like this one. I had a 2008 Expedition that didn't have a single issue the entire time I had it. I suppose I expected more when GM decided to start charging over $60k for a Yukon.

Certainly understand your frustrations, I can honestly say my '15 xl has been great, I just wanted to add, some of your frustrations are a result from a piss poor dealer, unfortunately they are around, I will just add, I am the type of guy that gets all my service from same dealer, ive purchased over 10 vehicles from over the last 15 years, I NEVER have to ask for a loaner if in for service, (im getting oil changed this weekend on my '15 and first thing they asked was do I want a vehicle so I dont have to sit around and wait) so hopefully you can find peace with all the issues, as others have said first year can be a pita for sure.

Did you not research before you purchased? Most are very common issues, to be expected in a first year run. Give your dealer a few months to get them patched up. Tires wearing out? That is what tires do. They start wearing out from day one.

GM is supposed to do the research on these issues.

That's the thing. I'm ok with new models having some issues. Poor R and D leads to issues like booming and buffeting. Again though I can live with things having issues that are new. What I'm not ok with is the lack of support from GM to fix vehicles that are messed up. They know the issues a lot of us are having. They simply don't care.

I love my GM stuff, only car/truck I will buy but they need to get their shit together because they are loosing customers with their shitty builds and worse customer service at the dealer level. Might be a sign of the times we live in but lately the dealers are getting pretty shady, both in the purchase and service arenas.

So we got one guy who joins just to complain (he buys a first year vehicle and continues to complain about the tires wearing at almost 40k? Hello, that is pretty good on stock tires for any brand).

 

Then we have lawyer spamming people in here. Awesome, great group of people we have in here!

 

OP, at over 40k you either sell it and move on or find another dealer to try and get some of the other issues fixed.

Actually, I never joined because most of my questions were already answered on here...so I'd do a search, read suggestions, and fix stuff myself when the dealer couldn't figure it out. I only joined to share my personal experience up to this point.

 

I understand issues with complete remodels....my suggestion was and will always be that manufacturers should offer a longer factory warranty on 1st year models to a) encourage sales while providing some peace of mind for buyers b) get extended quality control and testing from their customer base to help make corrections and fix issues quickly for the following year model.

 

Unfortunately, I'm narrowing down my choice from a different manufacturer. It's insane that GM vehicles are now priced higher than Porsche ($60k), Jaguar ($41k), Land Rover ($66k), and Maserati ($72k) SUVs...none of which I'm choosing because my children are WAY too messy for those! ha GM is not even NEAR the quality nor customer service to those, though (in my experience). We've had even more issues since this post with zero help from our local dealer nor GM. And now GM announced laying off 2,000 US workers due to slow sales?
