How to make them fit..

Recommended Posts

Howdy y'all

New user, first post, here we go..

Last winter I bought a 2007 GMC Sierra, 4x4 1500, slt crew cab. I have stock 20" I plan on keeping. I want to get a little closer to being flush with the fender flares and a little taller, the stock tires arnt cutting it anymore, They gone. I plan on getting a RC 3.5 suspension lift w/ control arms (bad choice?) & BFG AT Ko2 for the tires. I really want 305/55/20 tire size, is it somehow possible!? Spacers? Body lift? Trimming ? Or will I have to settle for 285/55/20 .. ?

Will try to post pics..

Thanks for any input!

-Joe

With 35's you need to go to a 6" lift. Depending on the lift and wheel offset, with 6" and 35's you may need to do some trimming - I did not, but I stayed within what my lift mfg (Zone) said would work.

Unless you go with a large offset, the rears are still not going to be pushed out as far as you like. But, a large offset wheel mean even more trimming, or possibly even cutting up front. I went with BORA spacers on the rear to even things out.

EDIT:

I should have also added that your stock wheels will not help the stance issue and are not going to like the width (about 11.5" with the 305's) of the tire much - probably going to bulge pretty bad in the center.

Op, you're correct on the tire size. 305/55/20 is virtually a 33x12.50. Anyway, RC 3.5" is garbage, and those tires will rub the control arm due to factory offset and they will rub the fender should you add wheel spacers or new wheels. You could trim of course so that's not much of a problem. If cash is tight or you just don't like the idea of spending big bucks, go with a 3" body lift and a 2" leveling kit. Another cheap option is the RC 5" kit which is a decent setup.

Would a 4" suspension work, or still not enough? Money isn't super tight, but i don't know if i can justify buying a lift kit with a name like BDS. I'd like to keep the lift as low as i can, yet still fit the 33 12.5 in there! It sounds like i wont be able to keep my factory wheels if I want this to work.. Maybe I am being too fussy :banghead:

4" is enough if you're willing to trim and/or deal with rubbing the control arms at full lock if keeping factory wheels. Luckily BFGs run a little small which will help out. But at the end of the day it can work. But good luck finding a 4" suspension for much less than 6".
