Sounds like you had a headache due to a Junk Country 3.5" lift???? Regardless you'll have no problems with a well engineered kit from a company like BDS, FTS, Fabtech, etc. But if you're only interested in a leveling kit, the truck can easily handle 2 - 2.5".

It went bad quick because you got a cheap lift. A cheap lift only cares about lifting the truck the quickest and easiest way. If you get a high quality lift like BDS or Cognito to name a couple then you'll be better off. A high quality lift will fix angles to be closer to stop where a cheap lift won't do that. Rough Country is known to be one of the cheapest lifts you can get and that's not a good thing.

An '08 isn't old though.

Basic rule of thumb I've always stuck with is no more than 2.5" lift for the front without doing a drop bracket. Higher ones are out there but at the very least they will eat axle boots or worse as you experienced. 5 trucks later using this rule and I've never had any issues with wheel bearings, axles, axle boots, shocks or alignments when staying in the 2"-2.5" range

05 Tacoma 2.5" 17k miles

00 tundra 2" 75k miles (225k miles total in the truck)

03 Sierra 2.25" 16k miles

14 Sierra 2.5" 35k miles

04 Avalanche 2.5" 3k miles (current truck with 217k miles on the truck and still goin)
