Transmission Flush

Guys I have a 2013 GMC Sierra that has around 30,000 miles on it.

The dealer told me a transmission flush is recommended. The cost is 160 dollars at the dealer. Question is this something you do so many miles on your truck?

I thought since I have a fairly new vehicle that I can go longer.... Does 30,000 miles sound right to you guys?

Also is it worth having the dealer do this job? Car X a place closer to my house can do this for 20 dollars less but may not work on as many GM trucks.

if you are still under warranty, I would let your dealer do it. otherwise, low bid wins!

I am not impressed with my dealer's service so far, and as soon as my warranty is up, I plan to go to my local, private shop for service.

As for miles, the owners manual should tell you, but 30,000 seems pretty low off the top of my head.

I have been a huge fan of changing out all drive train fluids in the first 5000 miles, then go to a 50,000 mile regimen. Just me. While I do this and advocate it, I leave it up for each to decide for themselves and what fits in their own comfort level. I do them all myself except trans, and that I have done at a local shop near me that does excellent work. If you do it, do it right and have the filter replaced also.

If you have never done any of these things, just do the xfer and diffs and take a look at the magnetic drain plug. That should be more than enough to convince you to follow a early change out method in the future. Seems like GM products have a very high amount of break in metals in the their drive train components.

It is a good idea to go ahead and change it out. Since it seems to be the original fluid, changing it out now will only increase the life of the transmission down the road.

The transmission is one thing that gets overlooked the most. Then when it goes out at what might consider low mileage they wonder why. Considering what most spend "mod money" on, keeping the fluids fresh would be or should be priority.
