Stock Shocks Toast at 35k

Recommended Posts

So I replaced the stock shocks on my 15 Denali that had 35k on the clock. Pulled the old ones out and to my surprise they had no rebound what so ever when I compressed them. I never tow or have a heavy load in the bed. Is it just me or is that pretty premuture wear?

Btw night and day ride with the Bilstein 5100s highly recommend!

I've been thinking about getting the 5100s. How much is it for all four installed? Also is there any that ride height adjustable like the half ton model?

Not sure on installed as I do my own work, but the shocks themselves are between three and four hundred dollars depending on where you buy them. No ride height adjust on the 2500 shock as the 2500/3500 don't use a coil spring configuration up front...they're still torsion bars.

Not saying that they're aren't better shocks out there, but if you're replacing your shocks because they're doing this, you've wasted your money. There's nothing wrong with them, they're supposed to be like this.

No the shocks can't lift a HD truck.

If the OEM shocks are "conventional" not gas, there won't be any "rebound" if you compress them. If they were gas shocks & wouldn't rebound after compressing, then yes, they're shot.

Why did you get an HD if you don't tow or haul? Just curious.

Some people buy the HD because they like it. Like people who buy sports car but never really track them or drive them like they're designed for. Heck I bought a Denali HD and never really tow or have heavy loads. But I love it. Lol

Got a few more miles than that out of the factory Rancho shocks on my 2014 but I will have to say they are pretty crappy.

Replaced the rear with Gabriel Ultra's picked them up at AutoAnything for about 20 bucks a piece with free shipping and no tax. It takes all of about 0 minutes to trade them out on the rear. never swapped the front that is the new owners problem....

I completely agree with statement sierra. Trust me this truck was not cheap but I think it rides better that my new loaded 14 1500 Sierra did. I love this truck and though I don't use its capabilities, I don't regret it at all.

But I have towed with it already and plan to purchase a toy hauler in the future so it was towing capacity was in the back if by mind. And my 1500 dragged ass when towing more than 6-7k (5.3l) This diesel acted was like it was never there. Power, acceleration and deceleration were amazing!

But what makes you happy folks.
