If buying a '17 Tahoe - Will the Boom/Buff/Vibes Emerge later?

Recommended Posts

Question:

Have had an '04 Tahoe for about 10 years now and it has been pretty nice. Looking to get a new one and have read about the problems.

It seems that it's advised to test drive before you buy to see if the boom/buffet/vibrations are an issue.

My question: Will the booming/buffeting/vibrating issues always be there off the lot or do they sometimes materialize later?

I would consider another brand but have a GM credit card points stockpile I need to use and can't see myself in an Acadia.

Thanks. Considering a Tahoe LT 4WD with bench seats preferably (want to seat 8).

I test drove a '17 tahoe LS with the 18" wheels for about 15 minutes today. Took it up to 85 mph but drove it at various speeds between 25-85 and didn't really notice any noise/vibes/booming. Probably going to buy it. Salesman said the 18" wheels are less prone to it and spoke about flat spots on the tires (not sure exactly what he was talking about). Hope I don't regret it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Bought the Tahoe a few days ago. Already put 500 miles on it and haven't noticed any noise problems. Granted, mine is an LS with the smaller 18" wheels. Salesman said that the bigger wheels are worse on the noises, which backs up what people on this forum say. Anyway, I'm liking the truck a lot so far. Only problem is figuring out how to keep it clean since it's black. Does anyone know the best kind of wax to use on the 2017 black exterior?

I womder if the higher end models have noise reduction materials that compounds the problem? I also believe some people are more sensitive to this problem for some reason. I would drive the vehicle I was looking to purchase a minimum of 1 hour at freeway speeds before signing any paper work.

I don't know, my uncle bought a '17 Yukon Denali 2 weeks ago and drove it from Missouri to Louisiana right away. He didn't notice any problems on his either. Not sure what kind of wheels the Denali has but I'm guessing 22's.

Welp, mine started vibrating tonight at around 600 miles. I had to put into 4wd to get out of a little mud, nothing a truck shouldn't be able to do. When it came out it vibrated like crazy on the highway over 70mph. 80mph teeth rattling, felt like going over a little speed bump every 10 feet, Guess I have no one to blame but myself for thinking I was good to go after the test drive, haha. Time to go to the dealer. I thought it might be mud on the underbody or something but after the car wash it was still the same.

My second repurchased Denali started off great. The buffeting kicked in worse than the first repurchased Denali at 250 miles. I knew exactly what to look for on the second one. It started off perfect...that's why i accepted delivery. So to answer your question, I would say, yes, it does/can emerge later.
