2015 2500HD 6.0...deceleration

Recommended Posts

Hello all! New to the forum, and it's great!. I'm on a couple other GM truck forums too. I have a 2015 2500HD 6.0 Z71 with the 6 spd and 4.10 gears. Almost 2 years old, and haven't even reached 14,000 miles yet. I keep my trucks for a long time, and it's not my DD. Here's my question, and I'm pretty sure it's all in my head...

Took my truck in to the dealer yesterday for the airbag reflash recall. Was going between 40-50 mph and let off the gas, and was coasting to a red light. Didn't feel a downshift, but seemed to be decelerating almost like the brakes were on a tiny bit. Not in tow mode. Hill decent control not activated. My DD 2000 Toyota Camry will coast 20 miles if I let off the gas pedal lol! Does this sound common? Maybe the truck's always done this and my mind's playing tricks on me...

Yep sounds normal. The HD trucks have some good coast deceleration ability the way they have everything set up. The 6 speed transmissions are all clutch to clutch design which contributes to that ability. Also, before someone chimes in with "its the normal powertrain grade braking" its not. IF it was the "normal powertrain grade braking" it would come up with a message saying "grade braking active" on the DIC.

Mine does the same thing. I like it. Same deal for me on usage. I think I have put on, maybe 3000 miles since July. Given that the 6.0L 6L90 combination is just about the longevity king on the gasser side, I should be able to have this pickup a long, long time. I see a 30 year pickup thing going on. And mine is setup well enough that nothing else coming out in the foreseeable future even interests me.
