I just bought 6 quarts of Valvoline Dexron VI this morning but it was the synthetic version. Quite a bit more than that too!

Amsoil is great stuff. I have their fluid in my truck, and it shifts great.

Is Dexron VI backwards compatible with Dexron III? My manual says to use Dexron III for my tranny fluid (and to look for "approved for h-specification" on the bottle). On my 2005 1500 5.3L.

Thanks. Should I still use it if it's going to be mixed with Dexron-III? I'm only doing the pan drop/filter change. So ~half the original Dexron-III fluid will still be in there.

As far as I know, they will mix fine...
