Crank But no Start.... 1992 C/k

Recommended Posts

Hellos guys I'm hoping you can help me with my issues I've been having with my truck.

OK, so I have been "restoring" a 1992 Chevy 1500 TBI pickup v8 5.7 I will list all the work I've already done on it before i ended up at my current issues. (because I've already done a lot) and i'm currently stumped and would appreciate insight.

When i first got the truck it turned on no problem but drove very bad and would misfire and the speedometer would fly around wildly when driving. It come to have severe fuel problems I ended making this a project and have replaced many parts in including:

Fuel injectors and Diaphragm

TBS Sensor

Engine coolant senor

EGR Valve

EGR solenoid

Speed sensor

Maf/Map sensor

After doing this the truck started to drive better but it still drove rough sorta, but I was able to pass emissions (which it couldn't before when i first got the truck, so i knew i was getting somewhere),I had at this point flushed the
out and changed the
.
I then replaced the fuel pump.
which made the truck drive amazing, still had issues when i would be at a red light that turned green I would have to pump the gas pedal a tiny bit to get the truck to go right away but once it was in motion it was gone!

However the truck begin to stall occasionally at red lights which sucked but it would turn back on and it was rare so it didn't bother me too much, Sadly the truck was starting not to start at all just click. At this point I changed the battery post(bad connection) and charged the
(which was still good) to make sure it was getting juice. Thought it fixed it, but it ended up
being the starter which i then replaced next.

We also performed a tune up
replacing all
, distributor cap, wires and rotor.
The truck then started to crank but not turn over. FML... we noticed the new cap and rotor were shaking when attempting to start the
even though it was tight, ended being faulty so we replaced that again along with a
whole new distributor
My bud also checked the compression on one of the cylinders (which read good) and made sure all the timing was correct while doing this
.
It then drove a couple times good and would start right up no problems.

Sadly after a day it now has having the same
issue again where it will crank but not turn over.
Trying to troubleshoot it i went and bought starter fluid and sprayed it all in the carburetor and the air intake then tried to turn it on, which it did but stalled out after about a second. Wouldn't that mean its a fuel related issue? That didn't make any sense to me since i had already replaced the fuel injectors and pump as stated above. I'm kinda out of ideas maybe the
?? Sorry for all the text any advice would be very appreciated.

Here is additional data that warranted all those other part changes in that list:

When i first bought the truck the guy I bought it from told me the truck just needed new fuel injectors which was the first thing i replaced along with a TBI sensor my friend suggested (Hes the guy doing all this work as i'm not experienced as he is). Which didn't do the trick like the dude told me it would, I got the truck cheap so I was willing to throw some money into buying new parts hoping it wouldn't be too much of a money sinkhole. When driving the truck the engine was giving me GM codes 44 relating to lean exhaust which involved and led me to the o2 sensor and all the other parts i replaced including EGR valve and the solenoid and the Maf/map sensor. It was also giving me codes for the Engine coolant sensor, which I had replaced. It was also giving me code 43 for the knock sensor which i replaced and the adapter for it since it was chewed up pretty good. This also led my bud to making sure the timing was good. I replaced the speed sensor in hopes of fixing the speedometer(kinda did along with a new junk yard cluster. Brand new one might be better but not important) The only code left I had when the vehicle was running was the code 44 which was the lean exhaust code.

Doing research and I think the wires might be bad that are connecting the fuel pump to the engine..

Have you checked for any vacuum leaks? I had a 93 that would rot the vacuum line that comes off the PCV valve that goes to the intake just above or under the throttle body. When it would rot it would cause surging, stalling, and eventually crank for start. Might be something to check out. It is called the PCV valve hose. Part number from AutoZone 46001.

I've got the same year model of truck and I've had problems with the pick up coil in the distributor. If it has gone bad then when you turn your key on everything will power up but the fuel system will not work. The pick up coil provides the pulse that runs your fuel system. I usually change the ignition control module while I have it apart.

I've got the same issue. Worse in the cold. Cranks but no start sometimes. If I open TB plates and pour a bit of fuel, i can crank and start, stays running.

Sometimes on startup, the idle bounces around for a few minutes. Sounds cammed. Stalls out every so often. Driving me nuts, I've replaced a lot of stuff and can't figure it out. Haven't checked vac yet. A few have also related it to exhaust leaks/O2 issues.
