ABS system doesn't appear to be working

Recommended Posts

99 Silverado with 195k miles, recently replaced EBCM. Had to slam on the brakes in traffic and quickly realized ABS system is not functional. It never kicked in and my truck immediately went into skid. Luckily, stopped a few ft. short of the car in front.

Where to begin? Is there any easier way to test ABS without driving around town and slamming my brakes?

My initial thought is to focus on the ABS wheel sensors?

thanks in advance.

Turns out ABS is working just fine. With the snowy roads in Denver I'm able to easily slam on the brakes and verify ABS kicks in. I guess I wasn't being aggressive enough with my dry road testing.

If something is wrong with any ABS, a few things will occur, the easiest will be a light on the dash, a trouble code will be logged, or you will feel an operational inconsistency when the brake pedal is pushed hard especially during snowy or wet weather. Glad everything is okay with your ABS system.
