Anyone running aftermarket headlights?

Recommended Posts

Personally not a huge fan of the bar that separates the headlights into an upper and lower appearance. Contemplating going aftermarket. There's some offerings for $400-$800, but I know very little on the LED vs HID stuff. What do the 2016 Silverado 2500HD's come with stock, I think I remember that the Sierra was coming HID, but did the Silverado go that route?

Would aftermarkets be a simple plug and play, or would I need HID kits and all of that junk??

Was looking at something like the Spyder Black U-Bar LED Projector lights

This seems to be a lost discussion in general. I'm not convinced anyone has a good answer. I've read countless threads and combed through every online store review on LED kits (bulbs and full housing swaps) and still haven't found a reliable solution. IMHO LED's have a better output quality then HID's and I'm sure many people would agree. The problem is I can't figure out why GM never offered a LED addon for the 2500 HD's. In the end I just want seemless integration. I personally like the way the front end looks (even with the bar separator) and don't want to swap out the whole housing assembly. It's quite the conundrum. If someone has a solution I'm all ears.

Curious if anyone has any new information to add? I thought I staggered onto a possible aftermarket LED bulb solution with superbrightleds.com but wondered if anyone had any luck with the whole CANbus situation.

I went with Putco Silver Lux (LED) in both the low and high beams, the ballast and the error cancellers fit inside the housing with the dust caps intact, after doing many HID retrofits in the past these far exceed the cutoff, brightness and quality that I have used in the past would recommend to everyone!

If you want fogs I would recommend the Morimoto LED replacement housings with built in LED, far exceed a standard bulb replacement.

Each time I've called I got Danny. Great kid, gave me a discount and he's very knowledgeable.

I have their extreme LED kit with Canbus in the identical truck as yours. They only come in 5700k but they look great. Much better output than the halogens imo. My '14 1500 had LED headlights and fog lights from as well with Canbus. Never had a single issue for the 2-3 yrs I had them. I have the fogs for the 2500 in the 6000k but haven't installed them yet.

I thought about going this route as well but was afraid of the lights getting hot and melting my factory housing. Any issues with heat?

No problems I have had them in for about 2 months and had done several long hauls 10+ hours without shutting down. The shop that installed them said they have been doing that for the last several years and haven't had a single issue.

I may just do that. I thought I found a set on superbrightleds.com (and may very well work), but if you're telling me you've already done this to a 2016 Silverado 2500 then Im in... I'll call as soon as I can gather all the coin.

Any chance that you researched if Morimoto LED's has a high and low beam for the 2016 Silverado 2500, or know anyone who successfully transitioned to that setup? Curious more than anything. They have some nice looking product just don't know how reliable. Will prob try the fog as you recommended (thanks for recommendations btw).

I didn't like the Morimoto LED headlights you can't index their bulbs and I ended up with artifacts in my 2015 Denali 3500.

I'm the 17 Silverado 3500 I put the SilverLux in both the high and low beams. Got the kits off Amazon and then had my shop install both for me while they were doing the tonneau cover.
