Rear ended 2009 Chevy Silverado

Recommended Posts

Greetings all,

Just looking, hoping for advice on my truck from anyone who has been through a rear end collision with substantial damage before. I was stopped with my foot on the brake waiting for a light. The other driver never braked and hit by their own admission doing about 35 MPH. Her Subaru was demolished in front. My truck has substantial damage underneath. Bent lief springs, tow receiver is totally bent and pointing straight down, bent shock, spare tire is shoved over top of differential and not to mention obvious body damage. I just have really loved this truck and I am worried it wont ever drive the same if they do put it back together. What do you guys think? Should I push for it to get totaled? Should I/would you get a lawyer? Thanks for any/all advice!!

She is totalled. Frame damage, all the other damage, did the bed hit the cab?, diminished value, and its a 8 year old truck. Sorry man, that sucks.

Totaled = maybe

Repairable = possibly

Will it ride the same or feel weird when driving = more than likely

Rear end accidents = get a lawyer and let/him or her deal with the other insurance company.

Also, you might want to pay attention to any aches or pain you'll be having after the accident because your body start feeling them the next day and after.

Thank you Gents,

Well my Farmers adjuster came and said it has to be totaled... He said the frame underneath is badly damaged so much so that it is twisted downward on the passenger side. The only fix would be to put a brand new frame under it and they do not do that. So thats that. Looks like I will start shopping for my next Silverado. I have owned that one 5 years now and always loved the way it rode. Was a nice quiet ride. Ill be looking for the same only newer and less miles.

Mine was way worst than that and look at it now. I replace the rear section of the frame, bed, tailgate, bumper tail lights, leaf springs and fuel pump. Wish I had pictures of the before, but believe me it was buckled after being rear-ended by a texting Ford F250. Truck drives like new again. Just missing the spare tire tube cap in the bumper.

You could see what insurance wants to charge for buying it back if you want to rebuild yourself if that's even possible. Go get a few estimates before entertaining buying back.

Well my Farmers adjuster came and said it would be a total loss. Then the next day they said the other partys insurance was taking total responsibility and Farmers was closing the claim and USAA ( other partys ins ) was taking over. So far I have been impressed at nothing from USAA. They still have not sent a adjuster or responded to all the pictures they requested and I sent. One lady said clean it out, its getting picked up, another lady called and said she didn't know anything about that and they were still working on it. GGrrr. At any rate I am going to learn about the buy back process and what not this weekend. I do not have any time to work on it with my kids and job but my father in law might just want it. Thank you everyone for your responses. This is all brand new to me and I appreciate any and all advice.

Hi Guys,

So it has been a long slow process but let me make long story short. My insurance closed the claim, and It went to other drivers insurance. They wrote up a low estimate of $2900 just based off of visual damage. I took it to a body shop I trust and they said the frame is damaged. They wrote up a quote for a frame replacement for $10,000. Insurance came back and agreed to pay $8000 for frame replacement. The body shop agreed to that. So that puts the cost of repairs still well below value of truck so they wont total it. But NOW the body shop is telling me that they can fix the frame and everything for the $2900 and that I could pocket the $8000. They said they can fix it good enough that I can feel totally safe towing my camp trailer and everything. So I can get the frame replaced OR I can just get it fixed and keep the frame replacement money. Any and all opinion on that gladly accepted!!

Thanks!

What do they value the truck at?

Just for reference from KBB

2009 Silverado LT Crew Cab 4wd

175k, good condition

Trade in value is $8733.00

Private party $8937.00

$8733 * .7 = $6113.00
