Resonator Delete when having a Flowmaster installed? Please help!

Recommended Posts

I have a 2015 V6 Chevy Silverado (work truck "black out edition").

I bought a Flowmaster Super 44 and am about to get it put on at a muffler shop for 75 dollars. After reading a lot online, I want to delete the resonator and clamp open the valve to make it louder.

After talking to my 10th muffler shop, the mechanic asked me if I even have a resonator because most Silverados do not.

I am in no means a mechanic so I have no idea for sure and do not want to be jipped out of an extra 75 dollars for a resonator delete if there isn't even one on the truck.

Does the 2015 Chevy Silverado have a resonator?

And is 150 a good price for my muffler to be put on and the resonator deleted (if there is one)?

And should I have them clamp the flapper and leave it open?

Thanks guys!!!!

The resonator is basically a 2nd muffler and your truck does have it. You can see it if you look in the rear passenger wheel well. If you want the truck loud I would have it removed. I had a '14 and just had everything from the muffler back removed and it sounded awesome. I also had the Flowmaster Super 44 single in/dual out. I just had that V4 drone when it went into V4 from V8. If you don't want that then just have them replace the muffler and remove the resonator and put a pipe in it's place.

Like SouthernSilverado said if you want the truck loud remove the resonator. Last Thursday I had a Carven exhaust put on my 5.3 silverado and I told the guy first to replace the muffler only to see how it sounded. It was basically a little but louder than stock so I removed the resonator also and boy did it open up the exhaust note quite a bit.

Thanks for the response guys! What about leaving the flapper open? Does that make a difference?

The guy who did my exhaust said he removed it because it would basically quite down the exhaust note which personally I would not able to tell you if it's true or not.

I just had a Flowmaster 10 SI/SO put in with 3" pipe out the back no resonator or flapper and it sounds great. My shop charged $125. Quieter than I thought it would be and V4 doesn't sound bad to me.

Did that affect getting the truck inspected at all? As far as emissions anyways.

For some reason people on this forum make the drone seem like hell and for me I don't mind the drone at all. My dad's 2008 silverado 5 3 has flowmaster and that has major drone.

No because the resonator isn't mandatory, it's just to quiet it down for people that don't like sound. The resonator is just a 2nd muffler, that's all. Plus my state doesn't test emissions like Cali. Also they have a 3rd cat which isn't monitored. GM just decided to have all trucks Cali legal with the 3rd cat. I kept mine on, but wouldn't hurt anything to remove it unless you're in a state that requires a 3rd cat.

Totally agree, I put the 10 on mine cause I like to hear the exhaust.

I was first going to put a 10 but then I learned about Carven and when I heard the R series I knew I I had to have it. Second best decision I made in 2016, best decision was not going to for a 16 ram rt.

I agree 100%. I love the sound of a Chevy V8. I've had 5 (progressively louder) mufflers on this truck and I finally got the one that sounds GOOD. Flowmaster Series 10.

Stock muff = Prius

Magnaflow 18 = Impala

Magnaflow 14 = A little better

Flowmaster 44 = Quite a bit better

Flowmaster 10 = FINALLY

It will never be as loud as my Vette, but I like it LOUD.:thumbs::thumbs:

I am rocking the flowmaster super 44 res deleted and exhaust valve clamped open (flapper in the exhaust pipe) on my v8 with 3rd cat kept.

I still dont get why members here call it drone master for? I have very little even when flapper is clamped open.
