Headlights 2500

Recommended Posts

Do the new 2500s still have the crappy 14 - 15 headlights?

I know they updated in 16 for the 1500.

I currently own a 1500 and am toying with the idea of getting a diesel. The headlights sucked in the 14 and 15 imo it was dangerous and if spending this kinda cash on a new diesel I do not wanna buy HID kits again.

This is a deciding factor for me as the new 2017 ford f250s have the led headlights.

Thanks

Chris

They updated the '16 2500 bulbs on some models. Denali for example has projector HIDs stock.....Little erked they changed a year after I purchased mine.

Chevy HD still use the halogen projector low/reflector high stacked lamp (2015+up).

GMC went to HID single bulb projector (low/high) on all trims in 2016. 2016+up.

This is my understanding.

I know my new '16 2500 is way better than my 2014 1500 was..

I find the current Chevy design excellent assuming you swap in some HID's... They responded well to my HID install aim was still great and cut off is like it should be...

On the headlights themselves, No issues with melting housings, they never leak moisture in the lens, and the high beams come on top of the low beams which means (with my LED high swap) I have a massive wall of light in the rural roads, my vision isn't great but it's like daylight in a highway through the forest lol... There is even a perfect amount of light bleed from the factory lenses to light up the street signs real nice without ever getting flashed by others...

Just went thru this discussion on another forum. My '16 headlights are LED not HID. From what I have read ,there are different bulbs used for different models. Chevy may use HID on top line ,GMC uses LED on SLT and Denali and lower level trims can still have the old incandescent. Can't keep up with the change. Like the output of my LEDs but now I have to upgrade the fog lamps as they are incandescent and look yellow besides having crappy output.

If you have a 2016 2500 Sierra it will have HID, unless you've changed them.

LED's were/are only available on SLE/SLT 1500 sierra. They are standard on 1500 Denali.

Not available on any trim 2500 Sierra..

The all get the led 'signature' lights, but not LED headlights.

2016 2500 Silverado are halogen projector rather than HID

Well its a new vehicle and its been to cold to check so I will take everyone's word that they are HID. Maybe what I read was about the 1500's being LED as they did not differentiate as it just said Sierra.

They do a great job of lighting up the road and I don't get flashed. Thanks for setting me straight. I still have to get different fogs. Are the HIDs around 5500k color output?

I have been more than content with the headlights in my 2015 2500. I run a lot of rural roads where Bambi and other critters like to come out at night, and I feel very confident with the stock headlights. I did put yellow film over the "fog" lights to really make them fog lights and the do a fantastic job of accenting the direct road surface and paint lines. They cut thru fog and rain much better than the stock white.

I was definitely not happy with the stock headlights on my truck, and bought an HID upgrade kit. Worth every penny. Had to adjust the aim higher just a tad from stock also. I could care less about fog lights, they haven't helped me on any previous vehicle I've owned.
