2011 Silverado remote start?

Killakam

Question

I'm trying to see if my truck has remote start. I have the ap8 code in the glove box. So I ordered a new key fob with remote start button on it. Was I suppose to get some paper for instructions? Cause I didn't get one. So I just took it to Chevy dealer to program it and they tell me I don't have the remote start on my truck. So basically I just bought new key fob that can just lock and unlock my truck. I just told the guy I need these remote programmed. Was I suppose to tell them my truck needs to programmed too or what? I'm confused.

You can't just buy a remote and bam you have remote start. That would be too easy and GM wouldn't be making money. You have to buy a kit that comes with 2 very expensive remotes and 2 little papers. One paper has the TIS unlock code so the technician can enable the remote start feature in the BCM. The other is a little AP3 sticker that goes over your AP8 on your RPO code glove box sticker. Then an only then can you enjoy a warm vehicle in the morning. Expensive but still cheaper than a butchered aftermarket install.

You can get this done at your dealer if you're a ''No hands ON'' type of guy or you can get the kit off ebay but you will still need to go to the dealer to get your BCM flashed. Kit number I believe for your truck is 22970855, Please verify with dealer!

This works too....and cheaper but instead of having a start button you press door lock 3 times on your existing FOB.
