Who r using these Rigid Industries 50481 D-Series

Recommended Posts

One of the last things I dislike about my 14 Silverado is the fog lights or running lights. They seem worthless and I have been looking at these, Rigid Industries 50481 D-Series lights.

Who has these on this forum that can give me an honest opinion on if you think the investment was worth it.

I have a whiter bulb currently to match the Philips CrystalVision Ultras that I run but I can barely see the illumination and benefit from them. I would like my fog lights to be beneficial and not just something to annoy oncoming drivers.

The fog lights are too low to ever give you much better illumination. If you put anything brighter in there and aim it up, it will only blind oncoming traffic. Not much you can do to improve your view from the fog lights. that's just the way they are.

The reason you cant hardly tell any improvement from turning them on is because the headlights are so GOOD, that the fogs are pretty irrelevant for normal driving use.

If you are in a remote area (away from other vehicles) and really need more light, look at mounting some auxiliary lights higher up.

There's tons of guys running the rigid d series dot/sae lights for fogs. Don't know if that's the same model as what you've referenced. One guy had his HID's go out and the fogs were bright enough to function as headlights while he drove on home.

I have these on my Sierra and they're probably the single best thing I've spent money on, right behind the HID upgrade. They're very bright, yet have a narrow beam pattern so they do not blind other drivers. I'm not familiar with how they match up to a Silverado, but someone on here has done it I'm sure.

There's a large thread about them:

Here's my Rigid vs stock (granted the picture is taken in the beam, so they look super bright):

Here's on road with the Morimoto 5500k HID kit.

I see some of the trucks around here with light bars that illuminate a 1/2 mile of more. They are way to bright for oncoming traffic, but I must agree the headlights are pretty good, high beams are excellent. Just wanted more side lighting for critters.

I do not know about the ones you ask but the Sierra LED factory fogs are amazing for side illumination and critters. I use them every morning and night as it is dark and I live a little out of town.

Yep! Those are the only DOT/SAE Legal Dually's rigid makes. They greatly outshine any retrofit led fog lights and most aftermarket bulbs.

I have Rigid all over my truck. I have Rigid fog lights, but not the D series. I do have D-series behind my grill (x4) and they are excellent! Absolutely love them.

That being said, with my Rigid fog lights, I never had an issue with anyone flashing me. They are pretty low so I think that's why they haven't been an issue. They give off a ton of light though and was well worth the money IMO. I eventually went and added LED headlights as well, but before this, I was using my Rigid fog lights all the time due to the excellent light output.

I have a 14 with the halogen headlights. No problem with my headlights now, but the fogs are weak.

The Rigid SAE/DOT Dually is different in almost every way. It is designed to be used on road going vehicles and has a special lens that meets SAE/DOT road legal standards by having a sharp cutoff, not unlike the HID headlight systems found on high end vehicles. These wont blind oncoming traffic, but will greatly improve fog light output and visibility. Its not even a comparison to the stock fogs, and some find that these street-legal LED lights outperform factory headlights!

MRT has the best price on the internet, just $194 a pair, delivered to the lower 48. We also dont charge sales tax if you are outside Nevada, unlike Amazon and ebay.

We also carry the Rigid brackets that will allow a clean install into the factory fog position, and we also manufacturer a direct fit plug and play harness that will plug your new Rigid SAE Dually lights into the factory fog light wiring harness with zero cutting or splicing. We can create a package of all of these items, just shoot us a PM!

Want to get your own DOT Rigid dually lights? Check out our site here - http://shop.mrtmotorsports.net/rigid-ind/rigid-sae-compliant-led-lights/50481/i-2305713.aspx

These videos were done by my friend Charl on his F150.

We have direct fit kits with brackets, harness & lights for the following models:

2007-2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

2007-2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 / 3500

2011-2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 / 3500

2015-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 / 3500

2007-2013 Suburban/Tahoe/Avalanche

2015-2016 Chevy Colorado Fog Mount

2008-2013 GMC 1500

2014-2015 GMC 1500

2008-2010 GMC 2500 / 3500

2011-2014 GMC 2500 / 3500

2015-2016 GMC 2500 / 3500

I do like the beam on that light. Flat and across the road: not up in oncoming traffic. That is what I am looking for with the beam widening my view at night.

No Tyme

There is a company that makes plug and play LED fog lights for your truck, puttco, putco, or something like that, found them back in Dec looking for a set for my friends truck.

I do not know how bright they are or any details just remember running across them and thought pretty nice for a non oem set to work with the oem mounting bracket, plug, and switch, plus they were made here in the USA.

Thanks for your reply. If I do anything I would be wanting a direct replacement or install in the factory spot in the bumper, but the Rigid seems to be very high price. Being retired I am looking at a cost effective fix for these lights. I have tried LED bulbs but they seemed to blind oncoming drivers with little to no increase in side lighting. I have some (35 Watts) Super White Halogen Bulbs for the Fog Lights but again not any increase in side lighting just a match in color to my Phillips Crystal Vision bulb.

$200 is reasonable for the upgrade and I like the beam pattern on the Rigid but the cost of the brackets push it up to a price I find unacceptable, at least for now.

If the Rigid were plug and play with brackets for $200 I would bite, but...

I have them on my silvy. Love these. Output is great and the cutoff is nice so I'm not blinding other drivers.

I really like your setup, but when I go to the Rigid site the brackets I find say to mount 4 lights. I only want to mount a single light like what you have done. Can you give me the model # of your brackets?
