Better shocks fora 2500hd 4x4 ??

Recommended Posts

Just picked up a new 2016 2500HD regular cab 4x4.

Maybe it just needs a while to break in and loosen up but it rides a lil rough. I'm comparing this to my 06 am megacab 2500 which is much longer and should drive better and smoother.

Any upgrades for shocks for this truck?

I'm just wondering. I'll give it a while to loosen up.

Its a wheelbase thing a bit more so than shocks. You can try playing with tire pressure as well. You can get to about 56psi all around before the tire light trips (it will set for the rear as its spec'd to be at 70-75psi).

I put pro comp shocks on mine when I cranked the torsion bars and added air bags. They helped a little bit but it is still a stiff ride. Your older truck was much longer so that makes a difference as already mentioned. Tire pressure is a big deal too if you arent hauling anything drop it down also like mentioned before ha ha.

Bilstein shocks helped mine...

Mine would trigger the warning light at anything less than 65psi in the rear, I had my dealer drop the trigger pressure to 50psi in all four. Tire pressure was my biggest gain in ride comfort...

Im going to say also to play with the tire pressure as suggested wisely by 15 HDriver. I drove off the lot got home and started lowering mine slowly over a few weeks until it hit the sweet spot. M y truck rides pretty smooth and quiet for a 2500. Im at 55-58psi all around and never have thrown a tpms warning as of yet.

Crankman, at that pressure you are at, how is the tire wearing? Are you seeing more wear on the outside edges? I wonder if the I2 tuner will allow me to set the tire warning parameter? its on the way so can't check till next week.

I run 55psi in all four, I get near perfect wear...I have 20k on my HT3s, and they are worn as perfect as you could ask for...the rears, unloaded, actually touch across the entire face of the tire.

I ran the same in my OE Bridgestone and the AT3s that replaced them...only the AT3s feathered (all four), but that was from the coarse treads and winding back roads I commute on daily.

The only time I bump them up is if I know I'm going to be hauling heavy...

I logged 20k miles on a 15 Z71 and thought it was the nicest riding HD truck out there. My 16 is not a Z71 and noticed right away that it rode a little stiffer. I bought a set new take off Rancho shocks off of ebay and put them on my 16 and it rides great. There are a lot of people that bash Rancho but I personally love the way their shocks ride. You can get new take offs if you watch on ebay for around $100 for all 4. Southern Off road in Georgia has them often from their builds.
