The 2017 Revised DEF Tank...

Recommended Posts

So, there are 2017 Dmax trucks out there. The one thing I've yet to see though, its a better shot of the much debated new DEF tank.

So. The big "ugliness" of it is a thick plastic skid plate. The tank underneath appears to be of a similar design of the 2011-2016 tank. It is larger (GM did up the capacity from 5 to 7 gallons for 2017).

Lowest point on the truck? Not quite. I think there is a frame crossmember near by that is a tad lower yet.

Yes. The skid plate does place it lower than the last one. If the skid plate was off, I'm thinking it would be as low as the old one. The tank is longer than the old tank for sure. Appears about as tall from looking in the opening in the skid plate.

Would a fab tech skid plate or something like that hide it better if you removed the factory skid? I get the picture that it is just longer than previous years to make up for extra gallons. Is there a skid that hides it best? Thanks

From the skid plates I've seen in the aftermarket, they look just about as "ugly" as this. The tank without a skid looks best as the skids make it look 5X's as big as it is.

The rectangular running board is about the best camouflage.

That new tank will probably sell a few more 6.0 gassers.

Yup! They made the DEF tank even uglier. I'm actually impressed.

Also, I still love that you ordered a loaded, high country CC dually with the 6.0! I'm surprised the dealer let you.

The dealer had no choice if he wanted my business. I had quotes from 3 dealers to order the same truck.

The dealer I did order from also ordered the identical truck with a Duramax. The sticker price on mine was 74000 Canadian dollars, the Duramax was 85000 Canadian. I paid 19500 for my first house . LOL.

I have had the big girl for a full year now and I just enjoy this truck so much. I owned four diesel HD trucks and a V10 gas Superduty before owning this truck. This truck is my all time favourite truck by a High Country mile.

I didn't realize you had a 6.0L in that dually, that is cool! I bet it's so much nicer not having to worry about dealing with all of the emissions garbage, and the extra maintenance.

I always did my own maintenance on my trucks, now my 2016 High Country included the first two years oil changes and it was hard for me to let my dealer do it. My 08 Duramax was only serviced by me for the 8 years I owned it.I will not miss the expensive oil changes and changing the fuel filter. On the 08 you had to remove the passenger side front wheel well liner to change the filter. It seems like when GMC puts a diesel in their trucks, they do some odd things. Removing a wheel well liner to service your fuel filter, and a big ugly DEF tank make it look like the Diesel engine was an afterthought.
