Rattle/ticking sound coming from both driver and passenger B trim pill

Recommended Posts

A rattling/ticking sounds continues to come from both the driver and passenger B trim pillars. I had it in the dealer shop on 12/30/16 for the problem and going back tomorrow 01/19/17 for same problem. Also have rattle coming from center console. Does anyone else having the same problems? I have only had my truck for 4 months; like the truck but hate the rattling.

This seems to be a GM staple for the 21st century. I had a '94 K1500 with 266,000 miles on it that I was trying to trade in to buy my '07 Silverado 1500 - the '94 cab was 200% more QUIET than that brand new truck!!

I had the '07 back to the dealer COUNTLESS times under the bumper-to-bumper warranty - never did fix it. Still squeaks and rattles to this day, 10 years and 88,000 miles later. I chalk that up to the piss-poor design of removing the B-pillar on the GMT-900 extended cab trucks. Should've thought out my purchase a bit better. Lesson learned.

If a 2016 is squeaking and rattling, GM should just hang it up, and let the other automakers do what they can't seem to accomplish. :nonod:

Does it go away if you lower the front window glass just a hair? The inner door trim piece along the top of the door (just above the glass) is known to cause a rattle or tick noise with the window glass all the way up, but mostly goes away when you lower the window glass. The solution is to stuff some rope caulking behind the trim piece. I did that, and 95% of the noise went away. I got the rope caulking at Home Depot, same section with all the weather-stripping stuff.

It might sound crazy but, check the overhead sunglass holder compartment. Inside to the right/passenger side there's a little black tab/dohicki that can tick or rattle; sounds like a baby's rattle everytime you hit a bump. I had that on my 2015 Silverado, it drove me crazy because I couldn't for the longest time figure out where it was coming from, I thought it was coming from the B pillar also. Just check.

  • 2 weeks later...

I drove my truck from the dealer in Idaho back home to Anchorage AK. Zero noise on the 2600 mile trip in the dead of winter. Now the center console lid rattles (dealer fix was double sided sticky tape) that did not work. Both front door's have a rattle now as well as the rear seat brackets. Dealer can't figure any of them out. Told me to "bring it back when it warms up."
