95 Silverado can't put in 4wd

You have to pull with all your might on floor lever to get it to move and it just grinds and won't go into 4wd hi or lo. Any ideas? There's also no indicator light on the floor even after replacing bulb

If the transfer case isn't going into 4x4, then the light will never light - the light only comes on after the vacuum actuator yanks the cable, and engages the front axle.

 

Sounds like you've got an internal transfer case issue, or a severely rusted up linkage to the transfer case.

 

Luckily those things are very simple to disassemble and repair. Should be plenty of Youtube vids or other internet info on them out there. Just read the tag on the case for the correct model number. If the tag is missing, there are plenty of sites that can ID them visually by certain features.

Thank you, I did lube up the linkage and that doesn't seem to be the problem. I'll have to tear it out and try to rebuild it
