Coolant level

Recommended Posts

Hello I have 2001 Chevy Silverado z71 4x4. This is my first post I just wanted some other opinions. Yesterday the low coolant light come on while pulling back into the office. I was concerned so I opened the hood and saw the coolant was somewhat low but not much from the "fill cold" line. I went ahead and bought some dexcool 50/50 and when the engine cooled I added some so it would be at the fill cold line. I drove home and let the truck sit later lastnight I went and checked the levels again they were at the fill cold line. Came out this morning and levels were the same. Drove the truck to work and parked on level ground and let it sit. Checked the levels later at lunch and it seemed a little low again. I checked for leaks on the ground around hose clamps hoses and around the water pump and nothing. Also checked the floor board for wet carpet thinking of the heater core. Nothing and no smell of antifreeze anywhere. Checked the oil cap and dipstick oil is fine. So I drove the truck and around during lunch for around 30-45 mins and the coolant levels remained like before lunch just a little low from the fill cold line. Let the truck sit and checked it before I left worked still the same just a little under fill cold line. I drove the truck home parked it and let the engine get cold now it's at fill cold line. I'm confused is the coolant suppose to fluctuate like that? I don't know if that's normal and I'm just over thinking it
