Let's compare trucks GM/Chevy to Dodge!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys so Iv owned my 2015 GMC Sierra all terrain for about 2 worry free years 5.3L and it's been great should be paid off by july/August hopefully now you know a bit about what I drive.

Lately iv been thinking i might want to get something crew cab as my trucks only the quad cab.... I know I goofed and the new ones look nice...

So been tossing the idea around considering another gm/Chevy with the 6.2L lots power lots of fun beautiful trucks. But with that said it does call for premium fuel and that can get a bit expensive.. Comes with the territory I guess.

Now i also checked out dodge and drove the lot looked at a few they have out noticed the dodge rebel caught my eye. After reading into the truck the suspension set up and everything really impressed me now iv been thinking and reading how these trucks par up against each other... What's your guys opinions I understand some will be biased but the hole air suspension on the dodge and how it's set up to be taken off road really has my eye as most my driving I do is in mucky crap for work and long hwy drives to get to the site. .. But then again I'm torn because the Chevy and a little lift and boom you have a beautiful rig as well...

For fun both stock trucks who's the more dominant truck? What do you like and dislike about the two let's hear every opinion !!!

I catch my eyes looking at the RAM'S too! Then reality sets in and the hard facts come to life.....It's a RAM that's why they are 5K less than a FERD, GM!

Well if it's any consolation to yeah! I got a 5.3 GMC SLT 8speed! And didn't want the 6.2 because I would never need that much engine for anything. I now understand why the Dealership didn't have a 6.2 anyway BECAUSE THEY ARE THE BEAST! I put in 91 now in my 5.3 and it's awesome and if I had to buy again I would not even hesitate to get the 6.2L you will get your money back when you sell it bro! Read the posts it will get same MPG"S as the 5.3 anyway.......The 6.2 is like a nice piece of pie each and every time!

It just bugs me thinking I need to get premium fuel every time I fill the whore up! Because with more power means more heavy foot!! LOL the thing that catches me is how the suspension is set up compared to other trucks and I love that... I'm going to have to see how well they hold up over the next few months

I run premium in my 5.3 with my tune, truck runs awesome. I should have bought the 6.2 in all honesty, but I may be trading up to a diesel sometime soon so that'll be even better

The difference on a fill up between regular and premium isn't that bad.

Example:

25 gallons at $2.89 = $72.25

25 gallons at $3.09 = $77.25

Where I live the difference is 12 to 20 cents...per Liter.

That's about 45 to 75 cents per Gallon.

It's a considerable amount.

so long

I run 89 in the truck, and 93 in the Cruze. The 93 in the Cruze makes a huge difference, especially in the warmer months with the A/C on.

That's a different area too. My point was to just break down the difference for each one. You figure too that people spend say $350 on an intake in one clip for let's say an extra 15hp. That's a lot of gas money to pay for much more extra HP of the 6.2L vs the 5.3L.

Go 6.2. The hemi and 5.3 are pretty even power wise. With the ram you can never fully defeat the traction control and they dont have a true locking rear, which in my eyes makes a truck like the rebel useless. I have to admit they do look great though! The 5.3 is a dog compared to the 6.2, believe me, ive owned a 14, 15 and now 16 GM trucks...15 had the 6.2. Every time I drive my 16 I'm disappointed in the utter lack of torque and how it hunts gears. And a 5.3 in e85 or even a tuned 5.3 still doesnt come close. Its not all about peak numbers but just the sheer amount of torque the 6.2 has all around. But word of warning, if you buy a 6.2 then nothing will ever feel good enough after that!

We fill up with 87 grade for $1.09CDN/litre which = $2.84USD for a US gallon. And a trip across the border would save a huge amount of money each year. We also pay $1.32CDN/litre for premium which in the US you may pay an extra $0.12/US gallon for premium while here it is $0.65USD/US gallon.

That is why us Canadians comment on the difference between premium and regular grade gas.

I also looked at and considered the Rebel. Unless you get the All Black version, that two tone red/black trim will limit buyers on resale if you don't trade it in. The air suspension is fine until it fails as well. Interior trim is cheap on Ram's.

To each their own as it comes down to preference of ride for some, look for others, performance, gas mileage, reliability, etc.....you get the picture. I prefered a quiet, smooth ride and neither the Ram Sport or Rebel could offer that in comparison to my All Terrain.

all these GM trucks should have over 93 octane. it has 11:1 compression.

any auto guy (not a homeowner guy that drives a truck) knows with 11:1 compression you should run close to 100 octane, but realistically it should have atleast 93 in it due to high compression.

the truck has antiknock sensors, senses predetenation within the cylinders and retards the timing to detonate the fuel at the time it should to run efficiently and correctly. retarding the timing reduces power and throttle response. 87 octane is more flammable than 93, to put it in perspective, when i did tractor pulling, my high compression motors id build would diesel when you hit the kill switch on 87 octane, meaning it would detonate the fuel just on compression and heat of the cylinders with no spark, id have to shut the fuel off to kill it. it ran smoother and made more power with the correct fuel. the higher the compression=higher octane.

i run 93 in my 5.3 just because i understand how motors work with compression and i want the power the motor as it was designed.

around my area, 93 is 2.899 and regular is 2.379. 89 is 2.699

87 at 26 gallons is $62

89 is $70

93 is $75

there is a price difference there, but there has been studys and research done that you should be running atleast 89 in the motor, so we will go with those stats and youll see its $5 more per tank to run what the motor SHOULD have in it. yes you can run regular but unless you understand high compression motors, 93 is the ideal for 11:1 compression. it takes a couple of tanks to get the computer to adjust to the octane, and i did feel a difference in throttle response and smoothness as well as power, not much though, and its not just a mental thing, i did feel it run better. thats my 2 cents for this topic. i also dont drive my truck everyday, and a tank lasts me 2 weeks. and if i did id run 89 at minimum.
