4x4 2HI to Automatic

Recommended Posts

I believe I read where you can do this at any speed. Common sense says that if you need to be switching to 4auto that hopefully you are not driving much greater speeds than 50mph. I know I personally have driven 50mph in 4auto just fine. I would be careful going above 60mph, but that is just a personal thing.

Speed doesn't matter, 100mph or 5mph, you can turn it on or off

The only time I wouldn't turn it on is during a 2wd burnout

I try to let off the gas during a change, until it states it's engaged. But I've done it at highway speeds and used 4auto up to the limiter [emoji87]

throttle is no problem, you just cant engage it if the front and rear are turning at much different speeds. I accidentally turned it on at a red light once, took off before it engaged and gave it too much gas and spun the rear tires, it engaged with such a big thunk it felt like I hit something.

If front and rear wheels are turning at remotely close to the same speed, engage or disengage any time, throttle position, or speed.

Most people when drag racing will launch in 4auto and put it back to 2wd right before or at the 1-2 shift. I do it occassionally and it definitely feels like its not causing any harm. Can hardly tell it switched.
