Starting to feel regret

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I bought a 2016 2500hd about 7 months ago(first new truck ever) and it seems like issues just keep cropping up..and I don't know if i'm just being overly paranoid and anal or if others are in my boat with me. I was born and raised on gm and never had one let me down...i'll list the issues below and please feel free to give me advice or opinions..trucks got less then 2000 miles, garage kept, washed weekly..does not tow or plow or anything major..its just driven

1) all 4 rims scratched under clear coat

-dealer replaced

2)strange "meow/howl" when shifting 1-2nd gear..sounds like a small turbo letting off

-dealer said could not find any weird noises

3)visor leaks water..

-dealer smeared caulk around onstar fin..still waiting on new part

4) noticed my rear axle is showing rust, yoke on pumpkin is totally covered..pumpkin itself is showing signs of rust and flaking..along with the stainless bits on the front suspension

-don't know if this is suppose to be normal or if I should once again call the dealer...

thank you

For the down payment and payments and interest of buying a new truck I'll find another 2001-2002 3/4 ton or one ton and completely rebuild it. Park it in garage until it's done. That's my next job

You know I felt like that with my old 04 that I had almost 11 years..i'm not sure where you live but where I do metal doesn't last a long time if its driven in the winter. I do see the value of repairing older models in places that don't get salt on the roads. I probably would of fixed my 04 if it was 4x4, as the powertrain was still cherry and the chassis had minimal rust(I hit the car wash atleast weekly). I'm fairly young, and I promised myself my next truck would be exactly what I wanted, and I expect to get double out of this one then the last.

I live in Buffalo. Rust is a problem but can be prevented.

Oh alright, My thing I think eventually would be the cost of time/labor to constantly refurbish a truck after so long. I took amazing care of my 04 but it was an uphill battle with spikes and land mines trying to slow rust down on it without stripping it bare and sandblasting

One of the reasons that all my new vehicle buys I have them done with Auto Armor rust preventive package before they even leave the dealership. Rust has rarely been a problem for me for many years. And yes, I live in the salt/rust belt and also live on gravel roads where the underside takes a real beating. My 2015 has no appreciable rust starting anywhere on it's third winter.

I feel your rust pain here in the salt capital. I do my own body work and it was time to let my 2005 HD crew go. It was at the point where I needed rockers and cab corners at 10+ hours a side or pay $2200 to a shop just to replace again in 2-3 years. I like pouring used oils down what ever panels I can for preventing rust, but the Rockes I use 3M rust fighter wax spray. It helps but the ultimate rocker panel rusting from the inside out is inevitable.
