2001 GMC Yukon key fob looses programing when parked at a certain Ente

M.Richter

Question

I have a strange issue with the key fob loosing it's programming on my 01 Yukon evertime I leave it at a enterprise truck rental location, the first time it happened I thought the battery was dead in my fob but it's not that! I rent a 3/4 ton truck to move my 8600lb camper a few times a year, and when I get back to my Yukon the key fob no longer unlocks my doors! It only happens if I leave the Yukon there at least overnight can all the rental cars being locked and unlocked cause this deprogramming of my Yukon? ( Keep in mind my Yukon is a 01 the rentals are all 2015-2017 GM, Ford, Chrysler Makes) or can there be someone trying to hack into vehicles? I am baffled as to what could be causing this! There has never been signs of anyone in my Yukon maybe they never got the doors to unlock? Any ideas? I take everything of value out that's easy to grab even my BlackVue Dashcam so I never have and evidence of anyone tampering with the Yukon, and enterprise doesn't have cameras watching there over flow lot at this location (they only told me cars have been stolen and/or vandelized there in the past) leaving my vehicle is at my own risk! Anyone know what could be going on? Do I need to worry my Yukon might not be there one day? They are very popular around here and mine looks like new for being 16 years old no rust, perfect paint, leather is perfect, someone might want it! It's never seen snow or road SALT! People don't believe it's age or mileage until they see it up close! I wish there was a way to get to this enterprise without driving but there's no public transportation were I live and it's 48 miles from my home. Thanks

Those are nice trucks, I still have an 01 Tahoe. Figuring out the fob issue may secondary to your truck being stolen. It will be cheaper and you can maintain a piece of mind if you rent a car, use your Yukon with an additional driver, or even pay gas for someone to take you to p/u the Enterprise truck, then take your truck/car back the same day. Upon your return stop and p/u the Yukon and take back the enterprise truck? That's what I would do if the concern was theft of my truck. You could try a new battery in the fob and it may work, but that won't stop the truck from being stolen.

I wish I had someone to drive the Yukon but my wife has vision issues and her brother is the only other person I know in the area and he has a serious drinking/pot smoking problem he can drive (A Prius)) I don't know if he could handle a real SUV but I can't risk something happing with him behind the wheel, he uses that little Prius to deliver newspapers 7 days a week killed the battery's in the first on after 14 months. It was new but he managed to wrack up 160000 miles I. The 14 months he had it and buys tires every month or 2. I just can't trust someone like that with my Yukon. It's the one thing that sucks about relocating 800 miles from home and not knowing anyone were I moved to. As far as the fob issue it had to be interference of some sort the battery was fine, and this hasn't happened anywhere becides the Enterprise shop. I have full coverage on. It Comp and collision USAA would give me about $7000.00 if it were totalled or not found, this would be a inconvenience at first, I just hate when things happen that can't be explained Like the fob loosing it's pairing. Sorry for the drawn out explaination.

Why wouldn't you just have your brother in law drive you in his own car vs worrying about him not being able to drive your car. What about Uber or Lyft? Probably won't be cheap but how much is a piece of mind worth to you?

No Uber or Lyft around me I have goats and cattle we don't even have bus or taxi service, if I called a Uber they would have to drive 100 miles just to get to me, not practical in any sense, it's one drawback to living were I am, it's not far from living on the set of Yukon men.

We don't all live in city's it's a big county you should explore it sometime, getting a Uber here is like calling a Uber at the bottom of the grand canyon.
