Sometimes, I wonder about the sanity of my local government...

Because they recently purchased two of the ugliest trucks on the road:92b3cd72381b8c21406036f2c0caec1b.jpg10faf6e073d831ed84c16034c730ce0d.jpg

And to add insult to injury, there are ZERO body shops in the county authorized by ford to work on them if the unthinkable happens! (And I KNOW my electric company has better taste than this, because they have a brand new 2016 RCSB as well as a GMT900 RCSB!) and as already mentioned; our county ambulance service likely got sick of being taken to the cleaners by ford because of the nightmare maintenance and repair costs of a diesel super duty (even for a MINOR engine repair, the cab has to be ripped off the frame for any decent access!) and have started replacing their ford fleet with Silverado HDs and Express HDs

Looks good when I face the other way. But frankly government doesn't look at how pretty they are. They purchase from who ever offers them the best vacation.

But frankly those are gross.... I could have done better with crayolas

Don't expect change anytime soon. GM is not competitive for fleet sales. Ford is. Dodge is getting better at fleet sales. As far as you body shop comment, authorized means nothing. Fact is any body shop can repair/replace aluminum panels. The ones that could not would still be turning down repair work on any 1999 up GM truck because they could not paint/refinish the hood.

I work for local government, each vehicle purchased has to get a min of 3 bids. Cheapest vehicle must be purchased, regardless of preference. Ways around that, but taxpayers usually don't like to hear we spent more than needed.

Dude get over it. If Tennessee is anything like NH, the state gets bids and then local municipalities buy whatever they need be it a pickup, SUV, van, etc. It saves them money and the bottom line is all that matters for most govt agencies. No one ever wants to admit it but all three make perfectly decent trucks and the body off thing is nothing but hype, Ford's been doing this since like 2004. Any technician you want working on it has done this before and it won't be a big deal to them.

GM did not start using aluminum hoods for trucks in 1999.

So let me play devil's advocate..say you weren't into GM vehicles and a diehard Honda fan..are you going to complain that grandma wasent taken to the hospital in a civic ambulance? The bottom line is cost, initial purchase, upfitting and all that stuff. a lot of citys including fire/ems services buy fords because ford beats other bids via cheaper cost then competition and they are pretty cost efficient to upfit for the task. My local ems has two duramaxes(older) and two new powerstrokes..I know for a fact the ford is cheaper to upfit for the increased weight and so fourth..say what you want, yeah gm might be more reliable in the long haul but citys and towns aren't planning on passing down the 1995 k2500 to the kids, they use them and abuse them and then replace.

like my stay with gm products, it is like dominoes. gov't becomes a rockhead..doesn't change.

I remember ford diesels taking over after the dreaded 6.2L

I serviced ambulance, etc.

it just stayed there for seeming ever.

the only "weirdos" that stuck to GM was military.

Today, the new osh kosh hummer with a monster duramax etc..

it is getting it's way back in.

Locals can open their mind to other gov't vehicles for sure.
