Towing with a Sonoma

Recommended Posts

Figured I would ask here-

BIL had his little work truck totalled so found a 97 Sonoma 4X4, tows in little trailer when he does remods and has to take crap to landfill. Was getting ready to hook up his snowmobile trailer, but damn thing is almost 12" higher than receiver. Short of cutting trailer tonque and putting a drop on it do any of you have any other ideas I can pass onto him? A lower profile trailer?

He could use an adjustable ball mount like this one........

They come in different sizes and either steel or all aluminum. Measure the difference in height of the receiver to the hitch when the trailer sits level. You might need a 6" or 10" rise or more, and then get the appropriate adjustable one. You can then use the same one in other trailer applications and ensure your trailers sit level.

The easiest solution is to buy a ball mount that raises the ball closer to the hitch height of the trailer. Remember that the drop mounts found in auto supply stores can be inverted. The problem will be that you won't be able to open the tailgate while the ball mount is in place.
