Detailing..foam cannon with electric PR. Washer

Recommended Posts

So I'm curious of what the people use who go to great lengths in detailing. I have a green works 1600 psi pressure washer and it works amazing. The foam cannon that comes with it is less than desirable. Runny drippy soap with not any foam. I've watched some videos on different foam cannons (mtm, CH. Bros., ect) and curious what you guys use and also what foam is best. I have California gold soap and read its good for the foam cannon as well but looking for some advice. Also will an mtm or whatever attach to an electric washer or are connectors needed?

Yes sir. Below is their cannon & guide on all their soaps. Mr Pink/Citrus Wash are the two favorites because of the amount of foam.

I've got a Porter Cable 7424XP now and lots of supplies from these guys. They definitely know their detailing. Roughly the same price as Meguiars too.

MTM makes just about all of the foam cannons that you see, everyone just likes to brand them as there own with their own stickers. MTM makes three versions, if you have an electric pressure washer the P/N you want is 14.0349. The orifice is smaller to perform better with the lower GPM and PSI of an electric pressure washer. If your paying more than $60 for one of these things your getting ripped off.

Like others have said the best foam cannons are from mtm. Chemical guys carries them. They also have a big variety of soaps that are very very good. Highly recommend. If you prefer meguiars then I would recommend their hyper wash.

+1

I just got my 14.0349 over the weekend and tried it on the garage door. It worked great. I have a picture of the snowed out door if you really want it.

I have a Ryobi Electric PW: 1700PSI @ 1.2GPM, iirc.

EDIT: I did have a small issue with the nozzle not wanting to mate up to the sprayer lance. It turned out that the ryobi uses slightly non-standard fittings and it didn't want to work without a little pursuasion. A few minutes with the file and it was fine. Not really a problem with the foam cannon, but with the PW I have. ymmv.

Thanks guys. I've always detailed my cars and never knew about foam cannons til last year. I get their premise on suspending dirt and not washing it in. With having a tungsten color, although not black, gotta keep those swirls away plus the wife has a dark slate blue jeep which swirls. On the PC 7424 can that be used to apply polish and wax as well?

Anyone experience the failure of the bottle at the neck or the brass fitting itself falling apart? I thought about buying one but a lot of the reviews on Amazon make them appear to be be very cheaply made and/or fragile. As it sits now it's easy enough for me to apply soap via the low pressure soap nozzle then high pressure rinse tho it's not as fancy or dramatic looking.

Yes definitely! It can be used to apply cutting agents (swirl removers), polishes, waxes, sealants, etc.

You just need different pads for different applications. Use speed 1 to spread the liquid, and max speed to apply.

I would honestly recommend V36 & V38 from Chemical Guys. Then the jet seal, black light (for darker colors), and butter wet wax last.

Don't forget to wash & clay bar first though! And don't get any other polishing pads besides Lake Country.

Expensive, but they last 2x as long as the competitors. I used the 5" velcro backing & 5.5" pad.

If you are paying more than $25 for a foam cannon, you are getting ripped off. Look at a snow lance on Amazon, its the same exact thing that MTM, Chemical Guys, Adams polished and so on sells. I'm using one with an electric pressure washer for over a year and still haven't had an issue. My pressure washer is the SunJoe SPX3000 that does 2030psi.

Pirate, I'm about to purchase a bottle. I was looking at the one you linked and a few questions before I buy. This one should work w a green works 1600 psi electric correct? Also do you know if any other attachments are needed to mate the bottle to the wand or should it be a direct fit. Thanks

Those are all pretty standard. Looking at an online link of the way the wand is, you should be ok.

I use CG's Citrus Wash and Gloss or Honeydew Snow Foam as my soaps of choice from CG.

I have tried other soaps of theirs, and find these two to be the best in foaming, slickness as well as gloss.

In fact, I pretty much only use the Citrus wash now.

Remember, never buy CG at full price. Wait for a sale. They are ALWAYS discounting their stuff.

Amazon has a pretty good price on the Citrus wash. Only $21 or so with free shipping (prime).

Vicarod, thanks. If I run into a problem I'm sure I can hit Lowes and rig something with fittings to work

I looked on CG and yes their prices are up there. Would this be a good place to buy from and would this cannon work with 1600 psi

Oh also. I watched video of a guy foaming with mequires gold class car wash.

Any reason I shouldnt use this as a foam?

Thanks

Jeff,

As for the cannon, that particular model is for the Karcher brand of pressure washers. I think they use a proprietary connection style.

I think you are going to want something more like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Honest-Wash-Snow-Lance-Cannon/dp/B01MA4WQQA/ref=sr_1_26?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1489250691&sr=1-26&keywords=foam+cannon

I'd check the connection on your pressure washer. But it should be a quick-connect style.

As for the Gold Class, I have never used it.

I am a BIG fan or Meg's professional products, but do not use many of their consumer line (the lone exception being Quick Interior Detailer - GREAT STUFF...although I like Adam's better)

Give it a whirl if you have already bought it.

There is nothing risky about that Gold Class and I wouldn't be concerned about using it on my vehicles.

I saw on Amazon it is close to $9 for a 1/2 gallon which makes it $18/gallon

For a few bucks more ($21), you can get a gallon of the Citrus Wash and Gloss.

Careful with Chemical Guys. I like some of their products. They make some good things, but to me they are a marketing company. Everything is flashy...colorful.

Style over substance.

I do like their:

Citrus Wash and Gloss

Honeydew Snow Foam

Jet Seal

Silk Shine vinyl and tire dressing

Sprayable leather cleaner and conditioner (all-in-one product that does an okay job. Not excellent, but works)

and...of course...

Stripper Scent.

Other things I have tried of theirs are okay...not stellar.

But you can buy everything they sell on discount and recently I have found a lot of their stuff heavily discounted on Amazon.

NEVER NEVER NEVER pay full price for Chemical Guys.
