Advice buying..

Recommended Posts

OK I have a 1500 crew with a 6.2. LT with cloth and as few options as you can get and still get that engine. I have had a 99, 2000, 2005 and a 2007 that had the 5.3 and I wasn't ever impressed with the power for towing and acceleration like I am with the 6.2.

The truck gets used hard but I take care of it too. I pull a trailer almost daily that is full of construction tools, haul heavy loads and use it for a daily family hauler too.

My question for those of you who have a 2014 and newer.. Will I miss the power of my tuned 6.2? I want a new one but they are only available in a loaded truck. I'm going to try to find a truck with a low torrent gear and wondering if I run e 85 for the extra 20 horsepower and get a tune will it run with my 2011 6.2? Any pointers on what to look for if I find a lightly used '14 and up? All advise is welcome, thank you.

Forget about a 5.3 you will be very underwhelmed after having a 6.2 more so tuned. Shop around and you can find real good deals but you have to be patient and be willing to drive or fly in some cases. You seem to spend a considerable amount of time in your truck so why cheap out. A friend does about the same amount of pulling but has big trailers. I recommended a 2500HD Denali Duramax and he couldn't be happier. He feels the truck is very comfortable and he has no hangups about taking clients anywhere.

Dude - just order exactly what you want - and DON'T want - mine was ordered 1/24 and built 21 days later - good things come to those that wait........

:chevy:

That's ideal yet probably more then I should spend. I'm seeing used 2016's going for 28-30,000. Can't believe there aren't any used 6.2 liters for sale.

Used 6.2 seems to be sold within 1-2 days max of being traded in, some are already sold before they get on the lot, at least in my area.....

So you can't order a new 6.2 with just a lt trim anymore?

No.. Only LTZ, High C and Denali have the 6.2 option. It seems silly to only offer yuppie truck's with the most powerful engine. GM needs to listen to the real truck guys and offer it in every cab and trim level.

I think a tuned 5.3L would feel similar to a previous generation 6.2L, or even the same with E85. These 5.3s are a bit sluggish with the stock tune, but they come alive with a real good dyno tune.

HUGE difference between 5.3 to 6.2, tuned or not lol

I know the current generation L83 5.3 and the L86 6.2 are completely different, no question about it. But I haven't driven a previous generation 6.2 so I can only speculate if a tuned 5.3 of today can at least keep up with a stock 6.2 of yesterday, key word being keep up.

EDIT: I just realized that he has a tuned 6.2, so yea never mind lol I thought he had a stock one.

It's a canned Diablosport tune nothing crazy. I drove 3 new trucks this morning. The first a 5.3 SLT, 6 speed with 3.42 gears that was impressive. Very responsive but the v4 mode made it shudder bad enough to rattle the back seat. A new truck with the shuttering issue. The next was a SLT 6.2 with a 3.23 and 8 speed trans. Had identical response as the 5.3 but when I floored it became a monster!! Broke the tires loose at 45 mph on dry pavement. Looking at putting a deal together on a 6.2 with the NHT package that has a 3.42 gear.. Should be even quicker

  • 2 weeks later...

I found a 2015 LTZ in silver with a 6.2 with 18,000 miles and it looks to be a NHT. It has the brown/tan interior that I think I like also. ( So tired of black interiors)

They are asking $35,000 and I'm wondering what you guys think.. Is this a decent deal for this truck? fb4fe7072cc56f3deb27dde0314d65f9.jpg

From what I can tell this truck has everything set up the way i want. I had 2017 priced and it looks like this one is about $11,000 less and two years older/ 18,000 miles more of course.
