Xenon Depot HID Install '17 Silverado HD

Recommended Posts

I got the Xenon Depot HID kit today.

Contents include:

HID Bulbs

Xtreme HID Ballast

HID Igniter (PWM Anti-flicker module)

Relay Harness*

*Some vehicle specific HID kits may not include/require a relay harness.

No mention in the instructions if this harness is necessary w/ the GM wiring. (I've emailed XD)

XD has replied and says yes the PWM & relay harnesses are required w/ the Silverado HD setups

Has anyone installed a similar kit on the Silverado HD? Any tips for wiring routing or component mounting?

Thanks in advance.

Damn that was was a pain in the ass. Took me 3 hours to get the headlights and fog lights in. Headlights weren't that bad. Drilled a couple of holes into the covers for the wires so I could hook up the ballasts. Just had to pull the air box and extra battery out to have enough room to work. The fog lights were the worst part. Not nearly enough room to squeeze my hands in take the bulbs out and put the new HIDs in. Probably would have been easier if I unbolted a bunch of stuff but wasn't worth it. Now my hands and are scraped up. Worth the effort to make it look good though. These are Kensun 55W HID 10K for both the headlights and the fog flights. Also installed the Computer Warning Cancelers and Anti-Flicker Kit. Installed on a 2017 Silverado 2500HD Midnight Edition. I'd post a pic, but it won't let me post anything bigger than 1MB?

Erwin, did your kit use relays and if yes, how did you connect to the battery? My XD kit uses relays and the fused power leads have ring terminals. I haven't looked under all the plastic guarding/shielding that has appeared on top of the battery since the GMT900 trucks.

Revrnd, in this case I was able to just plug and play without the use of a relay harness. I used to have a 2015 Silverado 1500 that required me to use the relay which also had ring terminals. Under the plastic shielding covering the battery terminals there should be small nut and bolt to be able to connect the small ring terminals and any other batttery powered accessories.

I'll do a "trial" install w/o the relays & see how it goes.

Rainy, miserable day here today. I reworked the 'covers' to allow the harness to pass thru. When the rain stopped, I pulled the truck up to the garage door opening.

I did trial hook up of the LH/driver side headlight. I'm 6'2" & it's a PITA fiddling w/ the OEM to HID connector. I'd hate to be a shorter person. I had to cut 3 of the little catches on the HID connector before I could get a good "snap" connection. When I do the final install, I'll include a tie wrap to ensure a good connection. My 1st attempt was w/o the relay harness. The light came on no problem.

Any suggestions for mounting the ballasts? If brackets are necessary, that's not a problem since I'm a retired tool & die maker.

When the weather is nicer I'll do finish things up.

It's recommended to mount the brackets because the ballasts get pretty damn hot and I don't know how you'd feel about having them just bounce around while you're driving or melting any wires it comes in contact with. I know mine have already started turning the sticker on my ballast black. Did your ballasts come with mounting brackets?

I figured so much. Like I said, my work yesterday was to see if I could install the HIDs w/o wiring in the relays to the battery. No the kit didn't come w/ brackets, but that's probably for the best. When I got the HIDs from DDM Tuning for my Polaris ranger UTV, I had to replace the brackets w/ my own. The mat'l the supplied brackets were made of were closer to tinfoil than 16 gauge (1/16") sheet metal.

Rectangular plate is for LH side. It mounts to the LH fender w/ the harness facing forward.

Angled plate is for the the RH side. It mounts to the angled portion of the rad' support cover, w/ the harness facing down.
