Stabilitrak and cruise control issue

Jacob Horton

Question

So I have a 2014 GMC Sierra with a 4 inch front lift and a 2 inch rear lift. Recently the Stabilitrak has been engaging when making low speed turns forward or backwards. By engaging i mean the steering wheel is practically yanked out of my hands in the opposite direction and this sometimes occurs in intersections which is particularly scary. This does not happen every time and is not consistently. The steering wheel will jerk the opposite way i am trying to turn, the electronics dim, and often the truck will actually stall out. To further complicate this problem while driving down the road the stabilitrak light will light up randomly for 1 second going straight at high speeds then disapear. To further complicate when using cruise control and engaging my turn signal the lights dim/flicker slightly and the cruise control disengages as if I have tapped the brakes. Please help! I have called several places and have heard the rack and pinions, body control module, and speedo callibrator but no one can pin all of these to one issue.

There are other threads on here about this issue. It has nothing to do with your lift. It is scary! It usually starts out with the lights flickering then later on you will get error messages about Stabilitrak. Eventually the steering wheel will jerk out of your hands. Some folks have had luck with bulletin PIT5405A that talks about bad grounding lugs. My 2015 1500 is in the shop right now for this. I don't have all the threads handy but if you search these forums you will find a bunch of them.

You will eventually find that the sound dampening mat is under the ground tab beside the driver's side speaker to the right.

To access this ground you will need to remove both ''A'' pillar covers and the panel with the ambient light sensor. Undo the ground nut and shave the dampening material so ground lug actually touches metal. Then re-assemble.
