Diesel or gas let's hear it

Recommended Posts

I can't make up my mind between the two I have a 6.2 8 speed that I will be getting rid of soon because of endless transmission problems and do not wanna go to a smaller less powerful engine but my only concern with diesel is that I don't pull that much does this really matter will it affect the truck so let's hear all good and bad stories

if you like having money, get the gasser.

if you don't have any particular attachment to money and just want to blow black smoke when you take off, get the diesel.

or do whatever you want.

. On repairs or just more oil battery's and def ?

basically a diesel engine just requires more maintenance and more expensive repairs if you keep it for a while.

if you don't need the extra muscle, its just purely for show. I would never buy a diesel HD truck for a daily driver. but that just me. at the end of the day, you get to decide what you want. if you are looking to lease, you can avoid most of the repairs and you are just paying a slightly higher monthly payment. but that is just a different way to part yourself from money.

I mean, the 6.0 gas engine in the HDs isn't too shabby. Should keep you with fairly similar power to what you have now. If you're just worried about not downgrading engine size too much.

that and they only get 12 mpg but if I'm going to buy a 2500 I just want it to be a diesel

So it sounds like you've already got your mind made up on a 2500 diesel being your next truck, if you don't want to downsize engines, which pretty much puts you in a 2500 no matter what, because you'd have to "drastically" down size to stay in a 1500. But since you seem stuck on not wanting a 6.0 2500, sounds like you've already narrowed down the decision for yourself to the 2500 diesel.

yes but as I asked earlier would not pulling enough with it hurt it is there a down side of not "using working " it as much as it was designed for ?

No harm to a diesel if you never tow. I just bought a 2500HD Duramax and I will be towing very little. I chose diesel for a couple reasons. First I've had a 2011 3500HD Dually that I used a lot for towing and still have at my business so the 2500 won't tow often. Gas mileage and fuel range was one. Been getting a solid 16mpg daily driving my 2011. Low end torque was a really big factor. The diesel rarely needs to downshift where my gasers had to downshift and rev to get any power. Third reason is engine longevity. I tend to put a lot of miles and when you get over 100K in a diesel you are just getting broken in. Obviously not an issue if you are not keeping forever.

Was never about long term which option was cheaper for me. Would agree if frugality was your primary goal I would stick with gas.

You have what I call the Tim Allen disease. It's your money.

Shouldn't make a difference as a daily driver IMO. :happysad:

i do pull a 6k lb camper I know that will nothing for this truck that is why I did not wanna go down in power but the truth is that yes it would be mostly used for my daily driving so as long as that will not effect they truck and it will average 18 like my 6.2 I don't see a reason not to get a diesel for the added towing benefits
