Morimoto 9012 2stroke led's?

Recommended Posts

I have recently become super fed up of how shitty the headlights on my 14 Sierra are so I'm looking at upgrading asap. I don't have the "know-how" to do a projector swap solo so I'm looking into led bulbs. Was curious if anyone has used these and what you think of them? I was kinda set on the xenondepot 9012 led kit til I found these. Just looking for opinions, thanks guys. Here's the link to the morimotos

You're better off keeping your halogens, or do what Bowhunter1 said.

Just curious as to why you say to stick with the halogens or go with the hid's? I'm assuming the led's don't make enoug difference to justify the price?

One other thing to consider is the statement on their website on the 2Stroke LED Bulbs...

"NOTE: Not for use in low voltage high/low beam DRL applications".

That's kind of a deal-breaker right there.

I have the XD led. They are a better color than stock but not much brighter. I also replaced the fogs with led. I would say with the led headlights and fogs on they are a little better than stock. If you want a better color then get led but if you want brighter go with HID.

this answers it, Ive had both the 2 Stroke and Morimoto Hid's in the factory silverado projectors, the LED's are dangerously dim and no distance at all. Hid's are a good solution, But a proper retrofit with the Mini D2s 4.0's was way ahead of the factory projectors

Any plug and play led headlight bulb has terrible output characteristics. They don't have a good hotspot, and the trick your eyes into thinking they are better by flooding the foreground with light. This makes it very hard to see down the road.

Thanks, I obviously missed that while checking them out.

Thanks for that, I'm just not comfortable with trying to retro aftermarket projectors so I'm looking for something I can do myself or with little help from friends.

Thank you for that clarification, I think sticking with the halogens is a no go as my wife doesn't feel safe driving my truck at night because of them so I'm thinking I'm going to have to go with hid's. I wish I had noticed it earlier, most likely would have swayed me away from the Sierra all together honestly, but that's all on me!

You will be happy with the HID kit. Everyone with a 14/15 Sierra agrees the lights were dangerously bad from the start. The HID kit is not hard to install either. Can be done in about an hour. Less if you have someone with experience that can help. Good Luck!

Thank you, now that brings me to my next questions if you don't mind. First is which ballasts do I get, 35 or 50w? Should I at all be concerned with the ~500 hours of lifespan difference? Secondly, I want the light to be "white" not at all "blue" so would that mean the 5500 bulbs? Does this also depends on what ballasts? And lastly is the carbon fiber bracket upgrade necessary or recommended?

1. 35W will be more than sufficient for most people. 50w is a tad brighter but supposedly does not last as long. I have the 50W going on two years with no issues.

2. 5500 is also what I use and it is a pure white, not blue nor is it a yellowish tint. I find it very pleasant and I am a light junky. And no the ballast will not dictate color.

3. I did not get the carbon fiber bracket, MPO is that its not needed and is for cosmetic appeal only but I could be wrong.
