Scan tool

Swimmer8366

Question

There has to be someone out there that knows what scan tools will allow us to do crank relearn and ecm programs for installs etc. Other than tuners and a tech 2. Want to buy a good scanner that will also get used on other vehicles as well as my own.

It is only set up to newest version as of 2016 so not sure also can't find compatibility list for it. How much more is the account? And other fees to use it?? Found anything on it? I have not been looking.

I am kind of a collector of scan tools since I do a lot of remote troubleshooting and I like to know what my customers are looking at. My personal preference is the ethos pro from snap on. I also have the Solus but the most bang for your buck it's the ethos. Pricey yes but it's one of the better scan tools in my opinion as far as coverage goes for the price.

As for programming you will need a J 2534 device. I have three different types well manufactures I guess I should say and I like my Drew tech Best.

With the pass Thur device you can always get the factory scan tools on a rental basis via the PC. Not the most cost-effective way. The tech2 Is outdated and honestly I wouldn't want to flash anything with that old technology.

The ebay tool listed will prob require the use of a subscription as it does not list that it ships with any software.

COMPATIBLE SOFTWARE:
* Support PC-based diagnostics with rollout of the Global Diagnostic System GDS & GDS2
* Support GM TIS2WEB online Service Programming System (SPS)
* Support Tech2Win application to offering a larger screen with all of the Tech 2 tool functionality
Global Diagnostic System (GDS & GDS2)
* New Diagnostic Application Software required for all GM Global Architecture (Global A) Vehicles.
* GDS & GDS2 is software which runs on a specific PC. Updates received via TIS2Web.
VCX Nano GM Kit support both GDS & GDS2. GDS 2 works similar to the original GDS. easier and faster

Could you explain to me how this product works? Feel I would be paying alot in subscriptions.

I bought the $400 Chinese tech2 copy off eBay. I have done two gen3 crank variation relearns, an auto climate temp sensor, two front impact sensors, and a fuel level sensor. If it broke tomorrow I wouldn't cry. I also tried the crank relearn through my hp tuners, it doesn't work the same as the tech2. I have fixed a few things with the hp tuners, but it is limited, no srs, abs, or bcm.
