Traded it in for a fire breathing sedan

Recommended Posts

I used to own a G8 GT and found myself driving faster that I should all too oftern. I had a truck at the time also (a mid-level RAM 1500) and noticed that I drove much more reasonably in the truck. Eventually I got rid of them both so I could get an upgraded truck. There are days I miss it, and if things stay on track I'm going to get a Camaro next year when the truck's paid off, call it a late mid-life crisis (I'm 51) as I had a Camaro at 17 and think it would be nice to have one again, as one of the posters above said, life is short, enjoy it.

Nice man. There is nothing more fun than a Rwd v8 car. Stomp on it and get that puppy going sideways!

I can't understand why GM abandoned a big RWD like my '74 Impala 454 V8 for US production........now the best RWD muscle car GM can give us is a GM Australian Holden rebadged as a ChevySS. Why can't they revive a US/Canadian mfr. Monte Carlo and stuff an upgraded VVT, DI 454 into that long hood which had plenty of room for a large V8? They certainly had sportier lines as does my '17 Impala.....SS does make an excellent "sleeper" though, the looks of a rental Impala with the guts of a Vette. My dealer has one on the water now scheduled to arrive in 2 more weeks and we're going to give it a good workout when it arrives.

They retooled the rear drive sedan line to build the hot selling P/Ups. This ended my rear drive Chevy sedans at 17 with the 94 SS. 7 years ago we discovered the Genesis sedan it felt like old times.

Makes me miss my 2005 BMW 545i I sold to get the truck. But adult life came up- home renovation, towing a boat, Carrying a large dog (would NEVER let her in my bimmer lol).

I loved my truck- but the Bottom line is, I am a true car enthusiast and would be in a car if it weren't for necessity right now.

I envy your choice!

At 50+ better rethink buying the Camaro...at least rent one for a week and kick the living crap out of it to get the feeling out of your system before making a final decision.

Thought I'd get back the feeling of my old '69 302V8 RS 4 spd. Hurst so on a lark picked up a new leftover 6 spd. manual '15. Lasted 7 months before it was traded. Ralleye stripes, splitter and spoiler made the thing a cop magnet, felt like I was driving a 1-1/2 ton jelly donut! Had one County Mountie run my plates and follow me for ten miles clocking every speed limit change and then finally passing giving me a pissed off look when he discovered he was following a grey haired idiot instead some misguided youth he hoped to collar.

That plus squeezing old bones into cramped seating with my a$$ riding 6" above the roadway and it feeling every bump. Ever see the Chevy sponsored "Hawaii Five-O" series where the 6'+ lead is driving a Camaro? Seems they always cut the scene just as he is about to jump into the driver's seat.....guess they don't want to waste another 30 seconds of footage showing him contorting to get in or slamming his head against the roof. And use of that damned Hill Start Assist in conjunction with the hand brake is a real PITA with a manual gear box trying to get a start on a hill without falling back into a Semi stopped 4" off your rear bumper.

And no chance of regaining the days of my youth and the rumble of the hot cam of a 302V8 with some hot teenage chick as the passenger seat upholstery screaming with glee as you pop the clutch and the rear end squirms as the tires squeal either!!!! Now all I can remember of the experience is my 50+ wife yelling me to slow down because I'm driving like a f#%$!g idiot and the constant complaints of why we had to take the Camaro because it is uncomfortable and rides like a POS compared to our Traverse.

So, Goodbye Camaro, Hello Impala. Now the V6 gives me the pep and entry access I need, the comfortable ride she needs and my ears get the rest they deserve.

Ha...your story was good for a laugh; i think we can all relate at some point in life. I remember when the Impala was once what the SS is now...sheesh GM...wouldnt surprise me if GM adds another set of doors to the Camaro and turns it into the Malibu.
