4x4 Indicator dash light

Recommended Posts

Hi All ,

Just picked up this 2017 Silverado 2500 a few weeks ago . I traded BACK my 2016 1500 after just about 3 thousand miles on it in three months of ownership . Came out of that deal cleaner than I probably would have later .

With the HOPEFULLY last snow storm of this season today , I noticed when shifting in 4wheel high the Indicator light on the dial its self was NOT lit up in 2 wheel and did not light up when I rotated the dial to 4wheel .

The 1500 would be lit in 2 wheel then blink when changing to to 4 wheel and stay lit in that selection .

Not that I need a light to tell me what I'm doing , just wondering if there is a light out OR the 2500 doesn't have the dial lighted .

Thanks in Advance

Steven

this is from the 1500 manual, can not imagine it would be different for the HD's.

An indicator light displays which

setting the transfer case is in.

N (Neutral) is indicated on the knob.

If the light displays momentarily

when the ignition is in ON/RUN, but

does not stay on, the knob may

have been turned while the vehicle

was off. To see the indicator, turn

the knob to another position so that

it matches the actual transfer case

setting. If no lights display, take the

vehicle to your dealer for service.

If it's like the GMT-900s, there will not be an instrument cluster indicator light for 4WD unless you have the floor transfer case shifter. One of my top 3 pet peeves of GM trucks. There was an aftermarket kit that a bright techie guy that was on here years ago invented and to which I and a few others purchased that would allow for us to add a 4WD light to the cluster in the spot where it would have been had we had the floor shifter. I installed it on my old 2008 and it worked VERY nicely. Sadly, the gentleman only produced a number of these and then ceased and I've never seen him around since and there are none offered elsewhere so no way to get your hands on a new kit. THe stupid pencil tip sized lights for the knob were useless.
