New shocks worth it.

Recommended Posts

I have a 2014 Silverado crew cab Z71 LTZ

Bought used recently. Had 305 55 20 nitto grapplers on it. Looks great rode rough.

Put 285 60 20 Michelin defenders on it. Not much better in ride comfort and hate the look compared to nitto.

Going to put the nitto's back on, would putting new bilstein shocks improve the ride? Or am I just stuck.

Had a 14 ram before rode so much smoother.

Any opinions or info welcomed.

10ply tires? If so they are gonna ride stiffe. With that being said I put bilstein 5100s front and back front maxed out for lvl and it's 1000x better ride. I have 10ply tires so the truck is a bit stiff but for me nothing bad at all. Im less than 350 in shocks for bilsteins best $$ I spent on my truck

I leveled mine with fox 2.0 struts in the front and fox 2.0 in the rear. I personally think it was worth the money, and even with 10 ply tires, I feel my truck rides nice and smooth.

I would have expected a noticeable difference with the Michelin tires. I suggest you have a reputable shop check out your suspension components. These are not stock tire sizes and maybe some non-factory modifications have been made. (ie: level without follow-up alignment)

As others have said the ply tire matters. If you put bilsteins at stock height it should, if you crank them up they preload the spring which makes it stiffer. It will ride better in certain areas and not in others. If you are looking for a plusher ride all around keep the Michelins and change shocks to something more road oriented or a more high speed off road shock those are usually softer. Either way it is a truck, a plush ride is just not in the cards. The Ram was down hundreds of pounds in payload or rode on air, completely different...

Chances are if your truck came with the 305 55 Nittos it has some kind of 2 or 2.5 inch level kit. This combined with the tires will firm up the ride some. My truck with the 2.5 inch level, 33x12.5 Toyo RT and Bilstein 5100's has a firm ride. AMX is correct being a leveled truck with 10 ply tires it isn't ever going to be Town Car smooth.

So the bilsteins would not provide a noticeable difference. ?

Just don't want to spend the money and feel no difference.

The difference is night and day. Very noticable. Some claim setting them on max will provide a stiffer ride. Mine are on max and I have to disagree. Furthermore the bilstein engineers disagree. I spoke with them at length concerned with ride quality on differnt height settings. If there is a stiffer ride it's so minor it's not noticeable. Either way they out perform factory by a long stretch even if the ride is stiffer. Before bilsteins bounced bounced bounced. Truck felt like it was floating on waves. Body roll is 100x better and cornering feels like it should. The truck feels like it is planted on the road as it should. If ya happen to be near so IN come on by let's go for a ride.

Do the 5100s. I ditched my ranchos already on my 2017, such garbage. I feel bad even trying to sell them or giving them away.

Look up MRT Motorsports on here, they have the best price you are going to find.

Do you like your Fox setup? I thought about going this route.

I love it, had it for about 45000 miles, and have had absolutely no issues. Rides great and handles the road much better.

What type of level did it add? 2" in the front or what? Plus, how much did the total cost. All 4 corners?
