Stealership Laugh

Recommended Posts

Took my truck in to the local stealership, and was sent the attached information. My truck is a 2014 with 35,000 miles. These services they recommend don't even match up with the owner's manual. Ridiculous.

Also, if anyone has a how to on the differential fluid change, please let me know. Can't find any. Still a little hesitant to get a transmission flush as well.

Yea stick to your owners manual. A lot of that stuff is not needed and just used to drum up money/business for the dealership. The diff fluid changes are stupid easy, you can do them yourself.

Rear differential - unbolt the cover and let the fluid drain and then rebolt the cover back on with a new gasket. Refill the differential through the re fill hole.

They call cleaning the lead post a service. :nonod:

I am in the wrong business. I am going to open a shop that specializes in "performing battery service". :shakehead:

One way the dealer gets around this is the extreme service section of the manual. While you're under warranty you may want to read that section. Almost every vehicle will fall under that depending on vehicle manufacturer. Nice little scam that could get them out of a warranty claim if they desire.

I can see them denying a warranty claim on a blower motor if you don't have proof that you have been changing the cabin filter yourself. Keep recipes if your a do it yourself person.

I would not do a transmission "exchange" or "flush" or what ever they call it, can cause problems. Just either have them or diy dropping what fluid will come out of the pan and replace the filter every 30k miles or so. Rear diff is not too bad but the front can be a slight pain because you will need a pump to be able to get the new fluid back in but those can be bought at any wallyworld for a few bucks.
