Less problems with HD's?

Recommended Posts

I have been browsing the k2 forums and noticed that the 1500's seem to have a lot of issues. Is it just me or are the 2500's less prone to have problems? Or maybe 1500 owners like to complain about their trucks? I traded a '15 1500 that had the quirky transmission shifting and the AFM wanted to be on almost all the time. Now I have absolutely no complaints about my 2500. Anybody else see the difference between the LD's and HD's?

We've been in a few K2 1500 engines. Two of them were 6.2, the other 4 were 5.3. Bent pushrod, bad AFM lifter, plug wires, flex fuel sensors. A couple transmissions have been out. I've yet to see a K2 HD cracked open. Now, if I include 2011-2014 trucks as far as powertrain, I've seen one 6L90 out, a few manifold gaskets, and one 6.0 opened up for a cam and lifters. Brakes? HD outlast them here 2 or 3 trucks to 1 vs. the K2 1500s.

As for other items that both trucks share (interior, exterior, etc.), at our store its rather calm.

could be just way more 1500 owners.

you can't just count the number of complaints on an internet forum and expect that to correlate to the quality of different models. There are millions of chevy trucks on the road, there are hundreds of complaints. You do the math.

my quick internet search makes me think there are something like 10x the number of 1/2 tons sold as HD, so therefore it only makes sense there should be 10x the number of complaints.

i am not sure if you agree with me or not!

maybe 1500 owners are whiny, maybe HD owners are neanderthals that are too stupid to type, maybe 1500 owners are busy sipping latte's and posting about their latest fashion purchases on Redditt, maybe HD owners spent too much money and can't bear to admit their truck isn't perfect.

or, who knows, maybe the 1500 owner complaints are fake news, people paid by george soros to hijack the forum. could be anything, i dunno! i've got 1700 trouble-free miles on my HD and that is all I really can say about that ...

haha, no, I do agree with you. I also have some 15,000 miles of trouble free driving.

and to be honest, those 1500 owners sipping lattes are the denali drivers, please don't lump us bowtie guys in with them.

oh, don't worry. hypocrisy is my greatest trait. i drive a 2500HD work truck, but only because i'm cheap, not because i do any work.

and as far as coffee goes, i'm the snobbiest, douchiest, yuppiest, cappucino-drinking twerp ya ever did see. i am sure even the denali drivers are annoyed when they are behind me in line at the local coffee shop :)

The HDs won a JD Powers reliability award.

The 1/2 tons did not.

The HDs are all built in the USA

The 1/2 tons are not

I recall a 'state of the nation' meeting during the GMT800 model run . They were able to break down the initial quality surveys by assembly plant. They were showing the stats & comments as they concerned trucks (all 1500s) that we had built. Even though the trucks came off the same line, 1 after the other & shared a large majority of the parts, the GMCs got lower scores than the Chevs.

The only explanation was that GMC owners had higher expectations than the Chev owners.

The HDs use tried and true drivetrains. They are responsible to fleet and business owners who do real work with the trucks. I would put the HDs as much more reliable, much stronger and long lasting than the 1/2 tons.

You can buy a 2500HD diesel for about the same price as an equally equipped 1/2 ton.... If you're patient. That being said. My 1500 had the frame coating fall off in the first 1000 miles (week in the shop to run the tsb), a/c line broke @ 5k, typical Mexican built 6l80 issues (sloppy just like my g8), and the worst ride I've ever experienced. 52k on my 2015.5 2500hd 6.6. only repair was too replace passenger power fold mirror... Coincidentally the newest feature. 52k miles and doing well.
