2006 vortec max tranny question

Justin_Munoz

Question

Just acquired a 06 silverado vortec max and trying to figure out where to start. The transmission seems to be stuck in first. I have only went around the neighborhood but i didnt notice it shift at any point during the drive. Got it above 3500 rpms and still nada. I have a tbss any know there is a few random things that can cause weird transmission issues. Anyone in here got an idea of anything to check before i just rip the tranny out and put another one in?

I'd check the speed sensors before condemning the tranny.

Does the speedometer read fine? If so you can probably rule that one out, unless the tranny isn't receiving the speed signal. Just read of a kid who soldered a wire on the sensor, and saved himself $1,500. Do a visual inspection of all wiring related to the transmission - look for loose, broken, or rubbed-through wires.

Shift solenoids and their wiring can prevent shifting too. Best thing to do is get a scan tool on there and see if the 1-2 shift solenoid is being commanded on (normally when that fails, it will start off in 3rd gear, however. Not sure what happens if both fail).

Need to do some troubleshooting before winging a major purchase like that.

Yea speedo is reading fine. Thanks i will look and see if i see anything abnormal.

Stuck in first, so no speed higher than 40. I just dealt with an issue in a 60e and an LQ9 that only left me with first and second. It would "shift" to third, but nothing was there. Might be time for a rebuild
