Broken grille...fix it tips

Recommended Posts

Well driving down the highway the other day my grille was damaged. It was a busy day and I was roughly 4 cars behind someone...and they ran over some wood that someone dropped all over the highway. I saw it coming but between the highway speed I was going, cars beside me and such I wasn't able to swerve to miss the flying wood( a good 1x2 ft piece). I honestly thought the wood would have done more damage than what it did but, still it broke only my grille.

My question is does GM just sell the mesh inlay only? I've looked and there are stick on overlays, aftermarket stuff and such but I want OEM... Or do I need a whole new grille? 4c7b699f7721e10c185761f221c1e4f3.jpg

Sometimes you can get lucky and find someone that is just selling the mesh. Local craigslist deals are the best. There's a chrome grille with chrome mesh local to me for 125 OBO.

Yea I've been looking and found a black straight bar grill. Not sure how black will look on an all chrome front end w tungsten body?

First, look at my pictures and you'll see some old ones from 2014 or 2015. That's when I had dipped on the chrome black on my truck. Second, from GM I believe you have to purchase the entire grille assembly. On a positive note it's very easy to replace the entire piece or the mesh inserts. Another option is to purchase an aftermarket set that replaces the mesh. Be careful as most sets are inlays and not true replacements.

it looks like the outer shell is still in good shape. I would go with a T Rex billet insert. They usually have two types, one where you cut out the mesh and install the insert, or one that just bolts over the top of the existing grill.
