Strange noise when driving...HELP!

Recommended Posts

I drive an 06 Silverado and a week or so ago, I noticed a strange noise when driving. It comes and goes, but seems to happen after I've driven for a bit.

I took it to a local shop who, after looking it over, said the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. I'm at about 120k miles and haven't had to replace them yet, so I assumed they were right. Well, after a nice chunk of change for them to do the work it's still happening!

I'm basically a novice when it comes to anything with my truck, so go easy on me!

Here's a video I took. You can hear it pretty clearly for the first 6 seconds or so, then it fades and comes back.

Any thoughts? HELP!!

Looks like the noise goes away when you lift off the throttle? I'd write it off as intake noise.

And ps- you have to try to be a little more specific about the noise - does it change with vehicle speed, engine speed, in different gears, etc.

It doesn't sound catastrophic from the video and I also noticed that the sound changed when you let off the throttle. As intheburbs said we would need a little more specific information about the noise to help you pinpoint.

I've noticed it when pulling into my driveway and going down the road up to 45 miles an hour or so. I haven't tried listening going any faster but I've heard it at all speeds, both accelerating and decelerating. But it does seem to be louder the faster I go, so almost like the faster the wheels turn the louder it gets.

And I've heard it when turning the steering wheel and going straight.

Some people have said they could barely hear it but I think it's easier to hear if the volume is turned all the way up.

Thanks for the feedback so far!

I have a noise similar to that on my 06. Comes on with the ac and cycles with the ac. I, thinking either the clutch, compressor or tensioner pulley. When it finally breaks I'll know for sure. My evaporator core also makes a weird ass noise when the ac is on.
