how many years have gone by since they changed the box size and shape. I would like to get a topper or cap. wonder whats the first year with this box size? also how do you seal the back door on the topper with a round tailgate. last topper I had had a straight door. do they make new ones with rounded doors now? ive never seen one. but maybe you guys have. I'm up for any suggestions. can any of the engineers at gm comment on the tailgate.im lost on answers. thanks guys (awesome site)

Honestly I don't think the beds have changed that much since 07, but the last change was in 14 with the K2XX.

It sounds like you are getting a topper with a full rear door (removing the tailgate). I have seen some on the road that sort of bulge out on the rear - don't remember the brand - ARE?

I just installed a leer 100XL

http://www.leer.com/100XL

The rear glass has a lower composite lip that is curved to match the tailgate. I ordered a seal kit from RealTruck.com that works real well at keeping most of the dust and road gunk from getting into the bed.

Guess I should post a picture.

other than the side windows being a little different...can you tell me the difference between the XQ and the XL? do you know? I am having a hell of a time finding details out (i wish their website had a 'compare' button)...

You are corect, the only difference is the windows. My 100XL has twist handels the open the back half of the side glass. The 100XQ has full legenth glass the tilts out to the back. Both have the same lines. There is a price difference.

My previous 15 2500 had power rear glass and my cap had the slider. I found that the additional bars of the cap slider obscured my view. So on this cap I opted for the solid tilt out glass instead of the slider. I can open the power rear glass and its not to annoying with the wind noise.

Thanks! And that is something to think about... I have a sliding back glass and thought that might be great to have those match up from time to time, especially if there's a dog back there...but if it gets in the way, might just have to do the folding solid...thanks for the info on the toppers! In the process of getting quotes for them...

I have quotes for a Snugtop super sport, ARE Z, and waiting for the leer XQ and XL... any advise on the differences or which is best?

I did a ton of research (my wife will attest) including many trips to the local installers. I didnt care for the Snugtop, and narrowed it down to the ARE and LEER. In the end I liked the edge look of the LEER as the ARE has what looked to me like a grommet along the edge that broke up the lines on the side of the truck. The prices for the ARE in my area where a little lower though. I also asked that the installer not add any of the decals or the dealer decals.

What was it about the snugtop? The look or price? I am leaning towards the leer...

Well the SNUGTOP had a weird rear angle, and it was not as nice as the LEER rear glass. The SNUGTOP and LEER came from the same dealer but I eliminated it before I even found out what the price was.
