Air Conditioner Controls

My dad has a 2007 MAX pickup. Every time that he starts the vehicle, the AC defaults to fresh-air. Should the compressor run in this mode (it will not)?

 

He has to select re-circulate to make the compressor run. Is this how the system should function?

The manual seems to indicate that the fresh-air mode should work in AC.

 

Is it normal to default back to fresh-air every time the truck is started?

 

Is it normal for the compressor not to run in fresh-air mode?

I know in my 2011 if I shut the truck off with ac in recirculate mode it will default to fresh air when I start it later on. Sounds normal to me.

Does the compressor run in fresh-air mode or do you have to go to recirculate to get the compressor to run?

It runs in fresh air mode if you have the ac turned on or the defroster
