Chevy 2500HD 6.0 gearing for 37's

Recommended Posts

If this is a body lift, you may want to consider how your cooling system will work. You stock HD cooling works well for the trans and the engine, and since its all mechanical, it lines up with the fan shroud. Friends I have that have done this end up with a 1/2 ton electric radiator, shroud and dual fans to keep it cool. Lots more money and work...

Just something to think about....

stock tires are 246/75-16 : Specs = 30.5" Diameter

If your new shoes are actually 37 inches in diameter (you should measure to be sure). Realistically they will be < 37 inches.

That is a 6.5 inch difference. So 6.5 inches/30.5 inches equals almost a 21.3 % change.

If you have 4.11 gears and you are not changing to a different trans, you need a 4.99 gear set to get the same performance as stock.......

So 5.13 will get you a little better performance than stock at the cost of mpg. 4.88's will be close to stock performance.

I plan on running 6 inch suspension and a 3 inch body.

I'd rather do the 5.13 so get a little better performance my gas mileage is terrible as is so taking it down some isn't a problem.

I have 37s with 3.73. My mpg city is 8. Towing isn't bad. Highway I can't let it go into 6th if I wanna cruise at 75. I'm planning to go to probably 5.13. The lower end will help with towing.

I don't tow that much but when I do it can be heavy. But right now I'm leveled on 33's with 4.10's and I get around 12 depends on how I drive. But I also only have 4 gears.

Ah. Mines an 11 with 6 speed auto. I have 7.5 inch rough country. I'm going from a 20x10 to 22x12. I need to get trac bars to get rid of the axle wrap. Hard time finding a kit for a short bed ex cab. Probably will make my own.

I was debating on traction bars but I'm not sure if I'm going to get them. Lift wise I'm gonna get the zone 6 inch suspension and I'm still looking for a 3 inch body for my truck. I definitely plan on going 20x12 wide with -44 offset for times just because I like the lip but also the off road look to the tire.

Towing will be a scary thought with this much lift. The CG rise is HUGE. If you dont run an "E" rated tire, I could see a ton of sway and instability with heavy loads.

1/2 ton trucks are much better for off road as suspension gives more, but not sure what the goal is here. Most do this on 3/4 ton trucks for "looks" or stance" Good luck!

Mine doesn't do bad towing. I have a 22x8.5 car trailer. Also have a 20 foot enclosed that I will be using to tow my e36 rally cross car after I get the trailer all sorted out. Will be using the open trailer for now. I have E rated terra grappler g2. It rides great and rows great too. Have a 10 inch drop hitch that's fully adjustable so I can have trailer tongue right at 18 inches to keep even. I bought the truck how it sits. I went from 38x15.50 to 37x12.50.
