Can someone tell me what this device is for?

Recommended Posts

You can see it in this picture between the speedo and tach, it's mounted on top of the steering column with 2 screws and has a wire running from it under the dash. It also has a small switch on the back. I'm looking to possibly purchase this vehicle but can't figure out what this is for. It's on a 2011 Silverado LTZ Crew Cab. the gauges in the pic you posted are not of any 2011 ltz truck I've ever seen

I see under your info that you have a 2011 Silverado. Those gauges in the pictures look exactly like my 2011 SLT GMC did and they look just like my buddy's 2010 Avalanche. Just curious, what exactly do your gauges look like?

Okay I see the subtle difference that you are referring to. The cluster in the original picture were typically installed in the GMC trucks, but that doesn't mean one didn't end up in a Chevrolet. Aside from that what the OP is asking about wouldn't matter if the truck is Chevrolet or GMC, it would be the same. Good catch though.

Might wanna reread Narda1's first post he states the truck he's looking at is a 2011 LTZ just like mine except it sure doesn't look like mine does it ?

A quick search on Autotrader and I have found more than one Chevrolet Silverado LTZ's with the same cluster that was in the OP's first post. See 3 examples below and the link to the Autotrader post.

Ok the clusters are nice, but still, what is that little square box on the bottom between the Tach & Speedometer just to the right of the hazard button on the original post's photo?

For me that extra piece would be my "SIGN" that whomever had the vehicle liked to rig up crap and there are probably many other surprises waiting where I cannot see them. I would take a pass on this used truck.......

Seems to be a bad case of thread drift!

I'm guessing you're buying from a lot of some sort. As others said its hard telling what other awesome ideas are still hidden. Like the threads of guys making the fog lights come on all the time. I know they are well intended, but some peoples methods can cause financial hardship later. I'd look for an independent shop to check the truck bumper to bumper, or bid accordingly.
