Building the truck GM wouldn't build. (2015 Silverado 2500HD)

So, this is my first post. Not a stranger to the truck message boards though. I'll explain the thread title, I've always loved the look of GM regular cab HD trucks, it was just unfortunate the General literally HATES regular cab guys. I've bought a couple GM cars and trucks brand new throughout the years, all of which, the trucks were extended or crew cabs. Simply because GM didn't allow these trucks to be custom ordered like they did in the earlier years.

I wasn't even looking to buy a new truck until I found this one sitting on the lot, a state over. It's a 2015 Silverado 2500HD 2WT. Why a Work truck? Well, GM doesn't allow a floor shift transfer case in the LT models. I didn't want the stupid electric transfer case (Also wanted to avoid OnStar), but I wanted all of the features of an LT / LTZ truck in a regular cab. This truck was listed for $24,995 it had 9,600 miles on it when I found it, total grandpa truck. The dealer brought it to me for a test drive, immediately fell in love with the power and interior of the truck. (Previously I owned brand new 2007 and 2009 GM trucks).

The truck became mine, pretty quickly. I started ordering parts. Quickly added LED headlight bulbs and the 2015.5 tow mirrors.

Totally unhappy with the tiny i04 radio, even though it had bluetooth and pandora, I quickly found an i06 navigation HMI unit and 8" radio module from a semi-local salvage yard. Also requested the LT interior trim panels as well.

I sent the HMI unit off to Digital Dash Solutions and received the unit back programmed. I tossed it, the new antenna, radio display and the trim panels in the truck.

During this time, I added a new leather wrapped factory steering wheel too. (In preparation for the new Z71 cluster I have)

Quickly, I fell in love with the radio / nav setup. It's awesome and works very well for my needs. I did find one problem though, the microphone for the bluetooth / voice control no longer worked. I called Digital Dash Solutions and explained my problem, I was told "Well, it isn't an OnStar truck, so we can't help you with a fix." Basically, told to kick rocks. That's about the time I got in contact with Anthony at MVI/AutoSpa, who took less than 10 minutes to get me setup with the correct harness to fix the mic problem and a harness to link the tailgate handle camera to the HMI module. (I can't say well enough, how good the guys at MVI seem to be!)

After that, the truck was dropped off to have the factory remote start installed.

I swung through the parts department the day I picked up the truck and purchased the stainless / "brite" belt molding, which it turns out won't fit regular cab doors, nor is there a part available to do what I was after from GM.

Here's an image of how the truck sat this afternoon..

I couldn't resist having parts sitting there to go on the truck, so I added the chrome take-off door handles this evening.

This brings us up to date. I've had the truck almost a month now and have 11,500ish miles on it.

I've got the following left to do to the truck:

-Install rough country 3.5" kit

-Order / Locate LT door panel trim inserts

-Have 5% window tint installed

-Have new Z71 instrument cluster programmed and do the wiring update.

-Find OEM 18" polished wheels and install with 34's.

I got really lucky and found a regular cab with just the right amount of amenities I was looking for minus vynl interior. I love the look of the current chevy and gm trucks. Nice work with yours and keep us posted.

Did you level it? Looks level. How's it ride I want to do the same to mine (34" an level)

Currently, the truck isn't leveled. I purchased the typical ebay key + shock extender kit, but after reading here I found the key and extender kit wouldn't truely level the truck. So I went to Rough Country and ordered their 3.5" lift kit with shocks for the truck.

Since the last update, i've done a few more things to the truck. Also have some other stuff on order.

Got a smoking deal on new front and rear black gm accessory bowties ($59 shipped)

Had the windows tinted to 5%, recently took it out to purchase a brand new flatbed car trailer to haul the 90 to the track on.

Found out the newer seats in these trucks make great nitrous bottle holders! LOL

Finally removed the grandpa gm step bars from the guy, being as i'm 6' tall, I don't need them. The only good thing they seemed to do, was get my pants dirty when getting in and out of the truck during the week.

I kept wondering why I didn't hear anything from the dash speakers, well.. they're non-existent. After some digging, I noticed the wiring was there for the front speakers.

So, I ordered some new factory "speakers", seem more like tweeters to me.. Also ordered the Synthesis door panel trim to finish the LT+ trim on the inside of the truck.

I still need to find the time to get the rough country 3.5" kit installed on the truck.

They didn't install speakers?? That's whack. Does your center seat have storage under the cushion? That's one thing I wish my truck came with was the under cushion storage. The center seat only has storage in the seat back partion which tends to just be a mess after picking up and setting down that seat back.

I gotta say, compared to my wrangler, my regular cab is quite spacious! So glad I went 2 door. Just can't beat that truck look

No, they sure didn't, wiring is there though. No, it doesn't have the jump seat storage either. That'll be fixed soon, as I just bought a set of black front seats to replace the gray seats in the truck.

I'm really happy with the interior space of this truck, but missing all of those options goes back to wanting a floor shift truck and you can only get that on a lower model.

Also, you're so lucky your truck didn't come with Onstar. I'm gonna pull the fuse on mine. Hopefully the airbag light doesn't turn on. (The airbags and onstar tie into the same fuse)

Also, hopefully the airbags still work hahaha

I wasn't fazed by the lack of onstar, I had it in both my 2007 and 2009, it was a cool gimmick for the first few months of the trial, I never renewed it. The only thing i'm going to do is update the radio module to a sirius module. As I like the satellite radio.

What does 2WT mean?

Where can I buy a replacement center jump seat with storage?

Means the level of work truck, 1WT is basically a stripped, no power option truck. 2WT has the power options, keyless, etc.

http://www.car-part.comI've had good luck buying parts for this truck from wrecked trucks.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Since the last update, i've removed the rubber floor, installed OEM carpet and added a set of GM Accessory "Chevrolet" brushed sill plates.

Also threw on a set of the factory 18's, got them from a guy who decided to throw some bro wheels on his truck. I'm having brand new tires installed Saturday morning. Nothing wrong with the current tires, except they're P-series instead of LT's. Who would put P-series tires on their duramax?

truck17_zpsgty6ghoo.jpg

Recently picked up a 2017 Sonic LT RS Hatchback for a gas getter, dealer almost talked me in to trading for a double cab 17 1500 with the LT, LT+ and Z71 packages while I was there. Truck was brand new and marked down to $34,500. Of course.. they offered me $26,750 for my truck in trade, which is $1,750 more than I have into it. The 17 was marked down from $53,000. I decided to keep this the HD though...
